Dear Anon, Your question reminds one of the state regulations in Singapore. Where, we are only allowed to display the national flag prior to national day and must take it down within a reasonable date after the national day is over e.g. 1 month, later. Unlike in the US, where one can display the a reasonably good condition flag all year round. In your question, it would certainly make or sense to celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY) with the decorations. But after 15 days or slightly longer, it would not make much sense to display the decorations -- other than some Chinese continue to hang a red banner "Ang chai" all year round above their door. Once CNY is over, it is best to take them down. And anticipate the arriving of the next CNY with jest! Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, It is true that not all homes at a Cul-de-sac is all that bad. I personally know of clients who have done well staying in homes at a cul-de-sac. The most important consideration is where is the home in relation to the "curve" of the cul-de-sac. In addition, homes at the cul-de-sac should not have exposed main entrance door (NOT main gate). Under Flying Star Feng Shui, homes facing certain good directions are also pretty advantages. As your diagram is quite "square" don't have the real prespective of how the full cul-de-sac is in relation to the main entrance door. Water must not exit out of this house from NW (The idea here is tomake sure that under the First Heaven Sequence Trigram, the waterentering a specific trigram must be noted. For example the trigram stands for "HEAVEN". Under the 2nd Heaven Sequenc Trigram, check where the "HEAVEN" trigram lands. It lands on NW. Thus water should notEXIT NW) Example 2:- (file name: water-entry-exitpoint-B.gif) 1. Where is the house facing direction? House is facing SE 2. Where does water e.g. drainage, canal, storm drain enters the home? SW (the trigram here is WIND) 3. Under the Last Heaven Sequence trigram, SE is WIND. Thus water MUST not exit, here. Dear Pam, Thanks for the pictures. From the looks of the storm drain, there should not be an issue since it is at the front of your home and the only visible point is the gap where the water flows into it. More importantly, this is known as the "entry" point (even if water does not flow into the home. Given this senario, do check your property for any other water exit points. For example, please refer to this url: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/art/art-pakua.htm You need to determine the facing direction of your home. Let's say for example, your home is facing SOUTH. Please refer to the above hyperlink. If so, water entry point is "SOUTH or Heaven trigram" of the First Heaven Sequence. Next look at the 2nd template: the Last Heaven Sequence template. Where is the "Heaven trigram"? It is at NW. Thus, on your property, water should not EXIT out of NW. This is a loss of wealth under the water Feng Shui classics theory. Dear Anon, Frankly, I am not too sure how indepth the practitioner had advised your friend. Most commonly, both Shapes and Forms as well as Compass School Feng Shui is applied to a home. Thus Shapes and Forms Feng Shui does not involve time dimension. So does Eight House Theory of the Compass School Feng Shui. Usually, if Flying star Feng Shui is applied, the majority of practitioners would apply firstly the 20 Year Flying Star chart for a given home. As the above name suggests it is a " 20 Year Flying Star " of a home which consists of three variables such as Mountain#, Water# and Base #. These three total 3 variables to balance overall for a home. And a 20 Year Flying star chart is often "fixed" for a long period unless there is a major renovation and this so happens between periods such as 1984 to 2003 and 2004 to 2023. Thus in general, if one had called a Feng Shui practitioner to assess a home, he would have considered the entire home Feng Shui for quite a long period of time. However, some FS practitioners purely practise only YEARLY Feng Shui. If so, this "YEAR" practitioner would advise based on the YEAR alone. Such as #5 falls in the NW sector for this year. Thus, he may implement a cure for that sector for that year (he may or may not take into account the 20 Year flying star). If so, this type of "drastic" Feng Shui measures or Feng Shui done for that year may need adjustment since next year e.g. the #5 would fly to a sub-sector etc.. Generally, most of us see a FS practitioner once for a new home and if done correctly, do not really need yearly assessment. The rationale is that if the FS practitioner fees are very high, he would grow in wealth every other year given that more and more have to consult him. For the majority, just take note of where the #5 and #2 flies to each year in relation to the 20 Year Flying star chart would be good enough. It would be good if the FS practitioner provides one with a hardcopy report on his audit and simply take note of where the yearly star flies in is sufficient for most people. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Cindy, When Flying Star Feng Shui is applied i.e. S2; and if your home was born or had a major renovation done between 1984 to 2003, then one should consider the various important numbers:- #8 - Current prosperity Actually, the mountain star MS#8 is directly at South while WS#8 is at the SW sector. In some homes, the gate is on the side of the home and often the front could benefit (instead) with a wall and a water postion could be determined to see if it can be at SW sector. #7 - Past prosperity but #7 became nasty in 2004. Because of the double #7's at the back of the home; if the home continues to remain as a Period 7 home, than, it would benefit from a water feature at the back of the home to neutralise the double 7's. Otherwise, good to see if the home can be changed to a Period 8 home. Thus, if we are applying Flying Star Feng Shui, some concepts relating to Shapes and Forms may not be appropriate. This is because Shapes and Forms DOES NOT consider time dimension in Feng Shui. Previously a double #7 is considered favourable prior to 2004, and a solid backing at the home was advantages at that time, but now, one has to deal with this two nasty #7's. One way is that since #7's are weak metal x2, water element is the best "cure" to draw out metal. Some other charts like NW2 and NW3 or say SE1 (Period 7) are Peral Sting charts that should take advantage of a "mountain" at the frontage and "water" at the back of the home. Dear Sophia, Under Flying Star Feng Shui, looks like the new location is also considered as the facing direction of the home: thus often a non-issue. In some of the past forum messages, there are some who "tier" their house numbers to form something like an "UP" direction. For example:- 3 2 1 Hopefully one can see that the numbers "rise-upwards" symbolic of progress. The above is not compulsory. But this is how some people place their house numbers. Dear Anon, 1. Feng Shui has many dimensions: The Environment, the Site and the Interior of the home. 2. Thus all the above three factors have an influence on one's Feng Shui. 3. In my opinion, frankly, there is no issue with the airing of shirts and pants especially if they are not that dirty. As you had mentioned, this is widely practised in the real world. 4. As all of us do not live in a text-book environment, so long as a room is reasonably maintained; I personally find this is not an issue. 5. We can draw a parallel to many of us having read some Feng Shui books that it is considered inauspicious to place aTV set facing our bed. The argument here is that when one sleeps, it was felt that one's spirit roams out of our body, see's it's image on the surface of the tv screen -- the spirit is suppose to get a shock! 6. But, what happens if this same spirit is an extrovert spirit who, before -- starting to roam, wants to view their face, comb their hair before going off! 7. Nowadays, many new tv sets have very low reflection. For example, try to see one's face in a matt-black led monitor screen such as an IBM PC. One could hardly see one's image in it. 8. The other issue is about tolerance level. Some of us can eat red-hot chillies. But some of us cannot or dare not even sample some chilli. Some of us can sleep comfortably with a room surrounded by mirrors while others cannot. Some of us can endure more stress than others. Some persons also strive on stress. While others cannot. 9. We are on this earth for a relatively short period and we should enjoy our environment and live reasonably comfortable without the added inconvenience of having to do this also cannot, do that also cannot. Dear Anon, In the past, the most common is the wood Hulu or original wood dried ones. However, in modern times (last few years) it is also common to find brass (gold looking) ones which represent the metal element. These two are if one wants to consider -- the two most "authentic" ones because of the following:- 1. It is often used or placed at locations with #2 or #5. Both are strong earth element. 2. Thus under the Five elements concept: ref: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-5element.htm 2.1 Under the productive cycle, metal destroys earth. Thus, many of those used to at #5 or #2 are made of metal such as brass / copper which resembles gold colour. 2.2 Under the destructive cycle, wood destroys or control earth. Thus, both wood (real wood, wood tone, brown or green) are considered under Para 2.2. And under Para 2.1, metal is the first choice element. Henry Ford saying goes " You can have any color, but it must be black". Thus, it can be any hulu but it must either be metal or wood. The size really does not matter. Anything else e.g. crystal hulu, black, purple, red etc... should not be used as a "cure" unless it's color fits the sector under the flying star MS#, WS# and #Base numbers. Otherwise, it is best to stick with either "metal (gold)" or "wood". For a hobbist, there is no issue buying a whole collection of hulus for display mainly to enrich the seller of such products i.e. line his/her pocket. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Applying Feng Shui is also very similar to taking an examination. For example, many of us can remember having to take say an examination that requires us to answer 4 questions out of 10 questions. Here, many of us would recall our teachers teaching us examination techniques. And the advise by our teacher is to try to attempt to answer all 4 questions instead of only 3. For example, in the past, how many of us do not allocate time for each question. Thus in a 2 hour paper, and if we need to answer 4 questions, this means that we should allocate 30 minutes for each question. How many of us do not do this and as a result, managed to answer only 3 questions and totally give up on the 4th question. Our teachers would advise us that the above is not productive. If possible, do try to answer all four compulsory questions. By answering all four, we should have a better chance in passing our examination -- for those who often scrape thru their examinations. It is the same as Feng Shui. What you had mentioned is only one part of the Feng Shui examination i.e. the Eight House theory. But what about: the Shapes and Forms and Flying Star Feng Shui? Thus, instead of unduly worrying only about the Eight House/Gua / Kua numbers, we should try to maximize our Feng Shui luck in as many other areas as possible! As they say "No point in crying over spill milk! It does not do any good). In addition to Feng Shui, (which is Earth Luck) we should also try to improve other areas such as Human or Man Luck. But rather, there is no major issue if they are not ALL figurines but if there is a picture of them and a set of three figurines. Thus I am talking about 2 sets of Fu, Luo & Shou. Dear Sophia, So long as the altar table is of sufficient length (often proper altar tables fit the Feng Shui ruler measurement); there should not be an issue as to how many deities are placed on the table. It also depends on the size of the deity and usually, as mentioned previously all of them should not be placed on the same height or level. The rule of thumb is that one should place a reasonable number of deities one worships but bear in mind that there should if possible no two identical type of figurine such as two Guan Yin's etc... (Other than buddha figurines since there are lots of various buddha's so having a few buddha figurines is not an issue) The most busiest time is the 1st and 15th lunar month at the Guan Yin temple; although these two dates are very auspicious, however, the temple can be very crowded especially on the 15th lunar month. This two days are good days. (But, try to be extra early on these two days). Dear Master Cecil Lee Well, thanks regarding the kuan yin that should not have two at the altar table. So, what the number to place the deities at the altar table. We intend to remove/send one of the kuan yin to the temple. If possible the ganapati (elephant god) send to the indian temple or can it be send to any temple. Asganapati I prayed since I was very young (maybesix years old from my parent).Is there any procedures like choosing the date or time orone have to ask the temple caretaker to place the deity at the temple. Dear Sheila, Since traditional Feng Shui has two schools: Shapes and form as well as Compass (Eight House & Flying Star); it is best to apply both to the home in relation to other factors like Grand Duke of Jupiter (Tai Sui). If one is renovating or going to renovate the entire house, it is best to find an aupicious date to start renovations - this will do. And after the renovations, try to avoid any more work to sensitive sectors like NW, West and East. Therefore, this is the only consideration towards what not to do after a major renovation. If one is going to do minor renovations and it happens to fall within any of the above three sectors, then, see if one can postphone the renovations only after the next Lunar new year - 2006 onwards.
