  1. Dear Jeanette, A key success factor is to apply Flying Star Feng Shui. This is because under Flying star Feng Shui, if one can rightly activate the correct locations, this would be beneficial. On the contrary, activating the wrong sectors may bring worse consequence. For example, under Flying Star, if the water star #8 happens to be in a specific location at the living room, this would be very favourable for wealth. However, under Period 8, there are three distinctive numbers and their significance under Flying Star:- #8 = current prosperity. Here, there are two stars : the mountain MS#8 represents relationship/lottery luck; while WS#8 represents water wealth position representing prosperity #9 = future properity. And this is represented by the fire element. Here, be warned that if say the living room has this #9 (fire wealth element) and one inadvertently place water, here, then one can drown one's "future prosperity". #1 = future, future prosperity. This number can be activated with water (since this is a water star) to add wealth to the home. As you can see, Flying star is "exacting" and if used properly can be very good or potent. However, what you are mentioning has more to do with "guessing-game-feng-shui". Or to the Malays, they will call it "HAN-TUMP" or anyhow "whack" senario. For a water position, one also has to be extra careful, i.e. if one enters the living room, the water position should preferably not be on the right side of the main door. Else, this is the "flower of romance" or illicit affairs.... The fountain you mentioned, has a ball that represents metal, and it is an acceptable shape. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  2. Dear Jeanette, Yes, it is preferred that a water feature does not face the main entrance. This is because, this is symbolic of wealth flowing out of the home. If you intend to install a granite wall feature, try to avoid a highly polished granite or marble wall. Since if it is reflective, it is like a mirror. Where under Feng Shui, a mirror facing a main door is not favourable since, it is considered as even before 'wealth" or qi comes into the home, it is deflected out of the home. (Under commonsense approach to Feng Shui, a highly polished granite wall -- is not favourable. Since, once we enter the home, we may --inadvertenly (while in deep thoughts) see an "image" like a stranger in the home. Where possible, the wall should have matt or dull granite (would be better).   3. Dear Barb, Generally, even if the road has little or low traffic, by the fact that it is exposed to a road view, would place it as a home (as you had described) at a "T"junction. Under the water classics of Feng Shui, it is good to have water coming into the home. But do check whether at the exit point, can water canal be seen at the back of the house or at the side of the home. (If so, this is considered inauspicious). I reproduce, an old article in this forum indicating the method for counting the number of steps-in-a home:- Introduction: 1. In Feng Shui, there are two traditional methods of determining the number of steps. 2. The first method is a 3 number combination. Where the first two steps are Auspicious but the last step is inauspicious. METHOD 1 - THE THREE-STEP CYCLE ======== 3. Thus under the `Three-steps formula' step No. 1 (Auspicious), Step No. 2 (Inauspicious) while Step No. 3 is considered inauspicious. Usually this 3rd step is known as the `death' step. 3.1 Thus:- Following this method, one should be able to work out the number of steps:- 3.2 Auspicious steps are:- 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 3.3 Inauspicious steps:- No. 3 is the third step No. 6 is the following third step No. 9 is again the following third step No. 12 is again the following third step...etc... METHOD 2 - THE FOUR-STEP CYCLE =============================== 4. However, Method 1 should be used in combination with Method 2 below:- 4.1 What is the four-step cycle:- Step 1: Auspicious Step 2: Auspicious Step 3: Inauspicious Step 4: Inauspicious 4.2 How to calculate under this method: Step 1 is Auspicious Step 2 is Auspicious Step 3 is inauspicious Step 4 is also inauspicious 4.3 Next 4 steps:- ================= Step 5 is auspicious Step 6 is auspicious Step 7 is inauspicous Step 8 is inauspicious 4.4 Next 4 steps:- ================= Step 9 is auspicious Step 10 is auspicious Step 11 is inauspicous Step 12 is inauspicious 4.5 Next 4 steps:- ================= Step 13 is auspicious Step 14 is auspicious Step 16 is inauspicous Step 17 is inauspicious etc... 4.6 One can do similar calculations for 17 or more steps..... 5. After finding out the numbers for both Methods (1 and 2) we now derive the following sets of steps:- 5.1 Under Method 1: The Three-Step Method:- 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 26 5.2 Under Method 2: The Four-Step Method:- 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 13, 14, 17, 18, 21, 22, 25, 26 Thus we have to eliminate the following numbers which are considered inauspicious in either one of the above methods:- Number 4 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 6 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 8 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 11 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 16 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 18 - inauspicious under method 1 Number 19 - inauspicous under method 2 Number 20 - inauspicous under method 2 5.3 Thus the final result are the following numbers:- 1,2, 5, 10, 13, 14, 17, 22, 25, 26 etc... 6.   7. Dear Sophia, Frankly, the Eight House theory has it's limitations. This is because often once we have already bought the home (a fully completed home), we are not able change the interior of the home such as the toilets or major wall structures. It is best therefore that for a completed home, it is good to try to apply the Flying Star Theory to check for any imbalances and correct them. As to flying to Period 8 and the many ways of doing so without a major renovation, please do a SEARCH in this forum for this topic since it has been extensively covered especially in the beginning of this year if one does not want to do a major renovation.   8. Dear JE, Under Period 8, in my opinion, especially for the central palace, one need not need to "lock" or neutralise the #5 at the central palace given that there is a Base #8, here. For the following general reasons: 1. It would look very odd to have a windchime at the centrepoint of the home. 2. Furthermore, in most homes, the windchime at the centrepoint is "stagnant" does not chime at all. 3. If it (windchime) does chime, it can make a pretty "disturbing" noise throughout the other rooms in the home. 4. Since #8 is an earth element and is the "wealth " element of period 8, a windchime may seem to kill #5 but it can also kill #8 totally -- the wealth # for Period 8.I 5. Given that #8 is good in period 8 and it is facing a similar #5 (both earth stars); pitting both #8 with #5 is in my opinion, generally a "square-off" thus the central palace becomes neither good nor bad even if #2 and #5 are around vs the entire "force" of #8 for Period 8.   9. Dear Zey, Let us not be confused with different theories. Your queries has to do with wealth leak relating to Shapes and Forms Feng Shui. Perhaps, it is best to attach a sketch of the current layout. This is because it isbest (most favourable) to have a divider in an "L" shaped living cum dinning room. For the rest of the partition or divider, it is bestthat it does not seem to"cut" or slice intoareas like the living or dining room area. If because of (image- here) if we do install a divider:the question is does it or willit cut-off sufficient lighting e.g. at the main entrance or just behind the divider? Especially so in a North-South direction house? If yes, then partial - non-air-tight or partial with glass would be a good choice for thedivider/screen/partition. Warmest Regards, Cecil

  12. Dear Anon, Seems like the home should be considered a Period 8 home. Since it would need to take up to next year or 2006 to be completed. Here, it would imply that when the apartment blocks reached Period 8, I believe all the floorings, facade, windows, main doors have not been completed as yet. Thus a test is equvalent of when did the home had a major renovation? If most of the skeleton of the home had been completed in 2004, but major finishings such as the flooring, toilets, kitchen etc is uncompleted, but completed under Period 8, then I personally feel that the home should be considered a Period 8 apartment.   13. Dear Chris, There are two considerations under "Feng Shui" i.e. 1. Symbolism under Shapes and Forms FS 2. Commonsense approach to Feng Shui 1. Under Symbolism in Feng Shui, it is considered a disadvantage to have a knife or sword hanging or placed or displayed in the living room. As this is symbolic of quarrels or disharmony. 2. Under Commonsense approach Just like guns with live bullets lying in the home. This can be assessed wrongly by young children or a parent or family member who is quick tempered or used by intruders into a home. Generally, as you had mentioned, it is best to keep or display the sword in a specific room e.g. your study room. And if possible, it is kept in a display cabinet under lock and key. Frankly, hanging the sword, vertical or horizontal does not matter so long as guidelines such as mentioned under Para 2 - is suggested and applied. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  14. Dear Sophia, 1. Apprently, no, re-arranging furniture does not change the qi e.g. from Period 7 to Period 8. But, there is some truth in "space clearing" or spring cleaning. Sometimes spring cleaning does help in improving the "health" especially if the room is not so dusty or stuffy. 2. Frankly, there is often no issue with having the dining table in the kitchen area. In fact, there are lots of homes both in Singapore (e.g. HDB 3 room) and in small Hong Kong apartments where the dining table is also located in the kitchen. 3. In fact, in some instances, this is acceptable since the preparation/ eating of food is at the same place vs partially in the living room area. 4. It is also not like one is currently cooking a "storm" and eating at the same time. This is because even if one cooks oily food, all the cooking would be over by the time, one ate the food.   15. Dear Yoke Yeen, 1. Frankly, from a micro perspective of a condo (the site itself) there are always good units that have excellent / good or favourable qi. But other units may have less or unfavourable qi. This is often applicable to all developments - large or small. 2. From the fact that you have brought up the prison, plus many others have brought up this "issue", would suggest that there are more people who may just don't like the idea of living close to or facing or looking at the prision (since some units have such a view). 3. Under Para 2, these are not directly Feng Shui related, but rather affect our human component ie. our "feel good or feel bad factor". If our thoughts are negative towards living or associated with living close to such a location, then, now or in the future, (resale) there are always many who would link or associate it. thus could affect the 'resale' value. 4. There are cases where even clients asked me about Ballota Park which is just next to Edelweiss park. But they associate Ballota Park with the prison is because, whenever, one needs to drive out of the condo onto a major road, the road junction is the prison's frontage etc.. Thus all these has to do with yours, mine or other's feel good or feel bad factors. In Feng Shui is also not like AIDs. Where, there can be bad prison qi to contaminate our homes. even with aids, it cannot be passed unless by fluid etc.. and not air-borne disease or something like it. thus all this good or bad is in our minds. What happens is that for some of us, having constantly reminded of the prison serves as a deterent to commit crime. While others have a harder time having to look at the IRS (inland revenue service building) and feeling guilty about not paying taxes! All these are in our minds.   16. Dear Sophia, Actually, the gist of it is that six coins represents big metal. And under Flying star feng shui, it is often used as a "cure" to neutralise some bad #star numbers. However, based on your description: to me it seems ok since: 1. the stairs do not face the main entrance. 2. in Feng Shui, a straight staircase is not that good. But it looks like you mentioned that there are some turns or landing. If so, this is favourable under Feng Shui. To me, your staircase, therefore, don't seem to be a major issue under Feng Shui. Dear Zey, For practical reasons, if one must shift house during a wife's pregnancy, it is best that:- 1. she must not see the masterbed moved over to your own home at all. 2. one possibility is if you are currently renting and if the bed belongs to the owners, then buy a new master bedroom bed. In particular, for the masterbedroom bed, your wife should not (must not) see it moved or participate in the moving of the bed. If possible, on the safe side, she should not participate at all in the move while pregnant. Only after the shif has been completed and the master bed is firmly in place, then she can "move-in" or come into the new home. Once this is done, don't move the bed at all.   19. Dear Elena, Yes, there is a recorded study known as something like "bubology" (sorry my spelling is wrong). This is a study in Germany where it was found that there is high correlation of cancer with beds above a sewerage pipe-line. Feng Shui is much about this invisible "qi" or water course such as a sewerage pipe which could emit harmful "vapours". It looks like it is difficult to relocate your bed. But are you sure that the sewerage pipe runs directly... or anyother better placement of the bed. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  20. Dear Jenny, Feng Shui has several flavours:- 1. Commonsense approach to Feng Shui Much of Feng Shui has to do with commonsense. For example, it is not favourable to have a toilet bowl above the main entrance. i.e. one day, if the pipe leaks, it may flow into the home. Another typical commonsense example, is a kitchen above the bedroom. Here, there can be a higher probability of a fire from the kitchen. And since fire/smoke rises upwards, it may affect the above rooms (bedroom). 2. Scientific forms of Feng Shui Using Compass School Feng Shui such as Eight House and Flying Star 3. Shapes and Forms Feng Shui Understanding qi and poison arrows that can affect the exterior or interior of a home. These are threats to a home et.. 4. Intuitive Feng Shui or Feng Shui by "sixth" sense What you have done belongs to this category. And if it does not feel right after having place the mat, remove it as soon as possible.   21. Dear Pam, 1. Actually, by definition, it is not exactly called a home at a T junction but rather a home "exposed-to-the-road-view". 2. Apologies, but it seems that you always seems to come across homes that may have a handicap in Feng Shui. 3. From a commonsense approach to Feng Shui, it is best not to buy a home facing a "straight" road running towards the home and suddenly, there is a turn. This is because, although, "accidents involving traffic is rare" but, there could be a (remote) possibility if some one's driving skill could be detoriated in some way eg. (drunk driving or if one is not familar with this road - nearly snoozing off) could unfortunately drive straight into the home. 4. In Singapore, especially, there are cases of cars "flying into homes" especially if there are no barriers. For those in Singapore, there is a well known road i.e. Mountbatten road that curves towards a home. In the early 70's a few cars ended at the front of the home. 5. Furthermore, the lamp post is not in a favourable position outside of the home. However, a "blessing in disguise here is that it could partially perhaps stop a vehicle..." Warmest Regards, Cecil

  23. Dear Sophia, Under symbolism in Feng Shui, 6 represents "Big metal". And six coins literally represent = big metal. And in Feng Shui, "big metal" is used to neutralise sha qi such as #5 misfortune, sickness or #2 sickness or #3 bad wood (disputes quarrels). Thus 6 coins = "big metal" is akin to " the mother of all general cures" afflicting a location that may or going to have #5, #2, #3 as an example.   24. Dear Jac, The most crucial fundamental issue would be to try to avoid direct afternoon sun coming into especially the master bedroom or other bedrooms and even the living rooms. Often, the last few units available, are not taken up because it is "facing" directly or indirectly the afternoon sun. Next, try to find a home that fits your ba zi e.g. the eight house concept. For Edelweiss, often, if one buys directly from the developer, these are "left over units". same rule applies to checking out each unit since, not all units are similar or identical. For Starville, if I am not wrong, these units literally got to see the "stars" since majority or all the units are facing other development blocks. For example, this is similar to some HDB apartments such as those in Punggol where one literally sees another "unit" from another development. In my opinion, other than location factor, I would not personally like to stay, here. Especially it is very common in Singapore for neighbours to hang their laundry out -- very unsightly.
