Dear Anon, 1. This question is very interesting. 2. For the Chinese, many burial sites, both past and present, are chosen for their good Feng Shui. 3. The belief goes back to the Ching and Ming dynasties. Ancestors buried in special places are thought to bring luck to their descendants. 4. But there is a catch—a burial site that starts out good may not stay that way. Construction, digging up soil, or flattening hills can change how lucky the site is. 5. In Singapore, many of the best places were chosen for burials in the past: 5.1 For example, Orchard Road—across from Tangs or Marriott hotel and the current Orchard Road MRT station—used to be…

Dear Wasis, Often, replacing the roof tile (some) and cleaning the roof with change of the main door, should do it. Locally, in Singapore, we have a common term: "To be Kiasee"or literally translated from Hokkien term: " scared to die" and this means, it is no harm doing all three to make sure that it is nearly "full-proof" (fool-proof*) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Hi. I have three questions about my room: 1. I am thinking of putting a loft bed into my room to save space. My room is on the South-East corner of my house, it has one window facing south and another window facing East. The bed can only go in the south-east corner of the room, where it will be in front of the East facing window. This will cut off some of the light, but as I work nights and sleep days, that is not a bad thing. Are there any Feng Shui rules about Loft beds I should know? 2. Also I have three pet garter snakes I keep in a terrarium in my room. What sort of effect do they have on Feng Shui? I have read articles aboutfish and Feng Shui, but there is little…

Dear Anon, 1. For the Eight House Template, consider these three main uses: 1.1 To find out if a house is suitable for you. If the “death” or “disaster” line passes through the main door, then according to Eight House Theory, the house is not suitable for you. 1.2 To check which unseen force is affecting your bedroom. 1.3 At work, this theory helps guide you to the best direction to face. These are the main uses of Eight House Theory. Besides these, it has some serious limits. It cannot be used as a cure because it does not use the Five Elements concept. Unlike the Flying Star method, which can find imbalances using the Five Elements and help fix th…

Dear Yum Chinn, 6. The main idea here is to compare this to an examination. 6.1 Many of us have taken exams where we had to answer 4 required questions. 6.2 The goal is to get as many marks as possible. If there are 4 compulsory questions and 100 marks in total, each question is worth 25 marks. 6.3 In exams, we should not only answer 3 questions. If the exam lasts 2 hours, we should spend 30 minutes on each question. 6.4 Teachers often say that if we only answer three questions and skip the fourth, we might fail. But if we try the fourth question, we can still earn some marks. 7. So, judging a home as “do…

Older architecture examples: (it looks like at some point the structure may have been refit with modern materials, but I'm not sure) Contemporary architecture: Columns, posts, and pillars are considered to be sources of sha qi. However, they are also the most practical and inexpensive way to provide a generous overhang to protect buildings from rain and sun while creating outdoor living space. They have often been featured throughout the history of Chinese architecture. A central concept of feng shui I've learned from this site is to remember common sense. I'm wondering how Chinese architecture may ha…

Hi, The building faces to 110 deg East and my apartment faces to 20deg N on first floor. There is an adjacent building (few feet) in front of my apartment. 20deg North Main door, 3door Windows of living room, 2 door windows of bathroom is located. Stairways from main gate to terrace goes in front of the main door and windows on North. People in our building usually walk through it daily. Majority of light and wind enters through the main door. What happens if Block 15 is replaced by a flat area like a pool? It could be a bigger problem if the space where Block 15 was is now just flat land, and the blocks form a U shape with the open side facing west. If this happens, all three pools will be exposed to sunlight all day, which means water in the pools will evaporate faster.

Dear Hoa Luong, Hoa Luong wrote: What would be the element for the color tan? and the color khaki? Is it earth? Yes, I presume colour you mentioned are similiar to these colour chart:- Tan Colour Khaki Colour Tan colour, if darker would be Wood (as it is closer to brown), if lighter would be Earth (as it would be closer to cream) element Khaki would be Earth element. Dear Anon, When facing a desk in front of a window with a sea view behind you, Feng Shui principles suggest having strong support at your back to provide stability and enhance positive energy flow. Using a low or back cabinet is a practical solution to supply this support while still enjoying the view. Alternatively, positioning your desk so that your back is against a solid wall and facing a favorable direction offers both physical and energetic support. This setup is preferable to sitting with your back towards a door or other less auspicious locations, which can disrupt focus and diminish your sense of security. Additionally, the overall Feng Shui of you…

Hi Master Cecil, Im trying to find a good date to move in, and according to online tong shu, 20th October 2025 is an auspicious day to move in. But when I put in the 30 Days Free Auspicious Date, the main owner date for 20th is inauspicious. According to the free auspicious date calculator, date 22nd October is a good day for all of us, but in Tong shu, 22nd October 2025 moving date is an inauspicious day. Which one should we follow for moving in date? As half of the family members are in school on weekdays, should we wait for all family members to be home to do the moving in ceremony( around 3pm plus) or should main breadwinner and myself do the move in c…

Dear Jen, If this is just a small plant and a one-time activity, it’s fine to do. Unless it’s something that will go on for a long time—which it isn’t. I think you should go ahead. Some people suggest putting a piece of metal between this area and your home, but I don’t think it’s needed. As long as you do it yourself, it’s OK. Don’t bring in bulldozers, that wouldn’t be good. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Tomas, In general, when we first open door; symbolically we want to "deposit" wealth into the new home or apartment. Start of renovations is often done. Here, the most simple procedure is to bring a hammer or a screw driver if we do not have the hammer and before starting renovations, usually say in mandarin " To all the gods, apologies, as I or we are starting renovations on ..... such a such a date." Afterwards, just knock three times on the floor or some on the wall. Usually Hokkiens practice more "simple procedures". Many Cantonese on the other hand, have the concept of 5-ghosts or spirits i.e. spirit or god of North, South, East, Wes…

Dear Kay, Often there are many ways at looking whether a number is auspicious or not. ie. For most 4 - Cantonese sound is Die so most people avoid it. But if you look at the Iris - 4 leave clover is a lucky symbol. ie. Alterntaively, you can also add up the numbers to be a single number to see if it matches your gua/kua number ie 6779 = 6 + 7 + 7 + 9 = 29 = 2 + 9 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2. So there can be 101 different ways at looking at a number. What is good for one may not be good for another. However, what you should also remember is that ultimately, what makes a house/plot of landgood or not is ultimately, the feng shui of your environment as well as the house that you p…

Under the Four Symbolic Animal Concept (pertaining to the concept where the back should have `solid backing' and front `clear space') no matter where the house faces this should be the concept. The front of the home is always easy to recognize. 5. In many Chinese cities, cold winds and yellow dust come from the north, so buildings avoid putting windows or doo…

Dear Wasis, Thank you for sharing your layout plans. They are very helpful in understanding your situation. The living room should remain as it is, since the new layout is a big improvement over the previous one. Regarding the bedroom, I agree that the new layout is not satisfactory. For this room, please return to the original layout. Warmest Regards, Cecil
