  1. Dear Andy, Generally, you can opt for: First Choice:- A. Metal (white / gold or silver) with Water (blue, black or grey) combination. Second Choice:- B. Metal (white / gold or silver) with Water (blue, black or grey) with Wood (Green or brown) Where: (Metal = circle, water = wavy or wood = tall and thin) Warmest Regards, Cecil
  2. Dear Anon, It is worthwhile for you to get professional Feng Shui consultation in your country especially since your huband's health is poor. Frankly, your questions are piecemeal and without relevance to proper Feng Shui diagnostic tools like Flying Star Feng Shui. Thus things like bamboo tree (real or fake) can be a double edged sword. As some sectors may not be suitable for such a cluster of plants. In addition, I do not have a clear picture of the exact size of the new building and whether it "cuts thru" the main door, windows or what is the distance etc... Warmest Regards, Cecil ponder ponder wrote: Hi Cecil, I happened to see your website and have not much time to explore on the flying star or eight house theory. I have some questions which I sincerely hope that you may advise: 1) My husband and my health are going downhill ever since we moved to our new house (for 5 years), what are the areas of feng shui (tips) do we need to watch out forin our house? And how should we counter them? 2) I have recently purchased 6 fake bamboo plants of 6 ft each and placedright infront of my main door entrance to act as a partition against my dining area which is also directly in front of my main door entrance. Is it advisable? 3) From my living roomwindow, there is a newly built apartment shaped like a blade with its tip pointing at an angle towards my living room, what ornaments or things that I can put there to block/ counter? I am thinking of putting a vase with fake orchids... I do hope that you can advise me. And if you require additional information, pls feel free to do so. Thanks a millon.
  3. Dear Ann J, More importantly, you have to determine what material the beam is made of. If the beam is made of wood, then based on the destructive cycle of the Five Elements concept: metal destroys or neutralises wood and seven represents = metal element (weak metal) and silver represents metal element. Thus, if the beam is made of wood, then SYMBOLICALLY, it is sound to have the 7 "silver stars". Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: ann j wrote: This wonderful siteoffers tremendous knowledge on fengshui. Please answer my query,The main door of my apartment has staircase opposite itat distance of 2ft-3ft. 4. Dear Samsiah, Usually, to analyse the entire apartment complex then, it would probably have to be the front door (facing the neighbour's front gate). But if you are trying to analyse your apartment, then; for high floors or high storeys 8th storey and above, then it is often the frontage of the apartment or often the living room area or the facing direction where you have the most windows and/or balcony. If your apartment is often 7th storey and below, then often, it should be the main entrance to your unit. As the rest of your question seems more like doing a full audit, sorry this forum is about clarifications or a catalyst to your understanding of how to. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Samsiah klomp wrote: we just bought an apartment and we have a probably with the front door. It is facing the neighbours front gate. We have a gate that leads to two doors. It is like a t junction with the main door to living room on the left and the back door to the kitchen on the right. We have to enter the gate which is SE facing and facing the neighbour's front gate and then turn left to our main door which is facing north east but facing the back door (we have to take 3 flights of stairs up to reach the backdoor.) So what is the general orientation of the house in this case?
  5. Dear Anon, If we strictly consider based on Chinese Astrology, the Rat is considered diagrammatically opposite the Horse. As such they are suppose to be one of the worst pairings in the Chinese Astrology (zodiac) signs. Reference: http://www.lovesigns.net However, phew! 50 years old? Go get a life, and since life at 50 is "really, really short"; why not.. even cannot MUST make it POSSIBLE! We can understand if one is 18 to 30 years. May be head-strong, stubborn or combative. But at 50 years old? Gosh! One should hopefully have mellowed down! And be more understanding! With regards to both the Chinese as well as Western zodiac signs: You see, many of us often read our own signs (zodiac sign) and often, (by auto-suggestion) by what we read, act some of the part of the characteristics of that sign. But for animals, there is less probability of auto-suggestion. Thus, the more we read the zodiac signs, some of us, act that part or unconsciously act that part of our zodiac sign! Warmest Regards, Cecil Anonymous wrote: What can make them a better match? Will they be happy together forever?
  6. Dear Lawerence, Yes, your observations are correct. This is because, especially in a home, the location that has both water and fire element is the kitchen area. And there are many considerations, when water and fire is close-by! For example: 1. Compass School Feng Shui Many practitioners who apply the Compass School of Feng Shui is very much concerned with "Fire at Heaven's" gate. And under this concept, it is very bad luck to have the stove placed at this specific location e.g. NW sector of the home. And when analysing Flying Star numbers, some combination of Flying Stars may be very bad for stove placement. For example, the location that may have MS#9 with WS#6 and Base#3. 2. Based on Shapes and Forms Feng Shui Where you correctly mentioned if possible, some locations should not have the stove directly facing the wash basin or water position. In fact, there are lots, lots more considerations. What I had mentioned is just the "tip" of the ice-berg! 3. Commonsense Approach to Feng Shui We should also not discount this area. This is because much of Feng Shui has to do with commonsense. And because of commonsense - good or bad, somehow some Feng Shui concepts are derived. For example, a stove should be placed against a solid wall. Not not have it's back facing a window. For example, imagine if the stove has it's back with the window. And if there should be a strong gust of wind and if the windows are louvered, wind may inadvertly allow the fire to burn one's clothing. Or if a child happens to be in the path, his/her eyes or hair may be scorched. If we live in a double-storey home e.g. bungalow, terrace etc... often we hear that it is not favourable to have a bedroom immediately above the kitchen. Again this is commonsense. As often, or there is a higher probability that fire starts from the kitchen then other parts of the home. Some "silly" Feng Shui master may asks the owner to place some "lucky" charms e.g. hang a set of six coins in the bedroom. But, in modern times. it would make more sense to invest in a fire alarm or smoke detector(s). Here, if there is really a fire, the smoke detector(s) or sprinkers can help us. What's the use of hanging a set of six coins... as it can easily melt! Here, dead persons, tell no tales! Warmest Regards, Cecil Lawrence Lim wrote: Hi Master, may I enquire whether the location of the stove in the kitchen will affect the careers of those staying in the house? e.g. cannot place it in the north of kitchen, etc? (am just giving an example, dunnoifsuch things exist). I understand the fire and water elements should not be beside each other, but does it mean that once you ensure these won't clash, your career will be ok?
  7. Dear Sophia, Side-track: This home would be "perfect" for a Master Chef! Usually, in Feng Shui, the size of living room vs bedrooms etc... often denotes the characteristics of the owners. For example, a home with very large living room vs small bedrooms implies that the owners are "adventurous" or in business, big risk takers. Generally, other than egos or suppose "traits" of owners, there are no major concerns, other than "feel good" or "feel bad" type of situations. As you had mentioned, one can still compartmentalise the kitchen commonly into two: dry and wet kitchens if possible. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  8. Dear Sharlene, In my opinion, I believe that it is a coincidence In the Chinese culture, there is no significant meaning of an insect like the moth. Thus, I believe, a non-issue. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  9. Dear Ruchi, Oops! I am afraid, what you had mentioned and commonly practised by many western "Feng Shui" practitioners e.g. the "Fixed Bagua" method, where one super-impose a bagua with different associations attached to it is simply NOT practised by Traditional Chinese Feng Shui practitioner. Thus, what you mentioned is simply a modern invention originated by the "Black Hat Tantric" sect. Traditional Feng Shui practitioners share these common traits:- a. Shapes and Forms Feng Shui b. Compass School (Eight House and Flying Star) c. Understanding and application of the Five Elements Concept Generally, although some Traditional Feng Shui schools differ in methodology or application, all share AT LEAST the above three common traits. Warmest Regards, Cecil ruchi Oswal wrote: Dear Cecil, I am trying to place Red color items in my office, becuase its is located in South, which happens to be my success direction, east gp.no3. 10. Dear Anon, Sorry to learn about it. Try to relax Frankly, it is difficult for me to give you proper advise as there are limited information in-order to do a detailed study to minimize any issues relating to Feng Shui. For example, although the facing direction is provided, things like which period your home belongs to and also other things need to be looked into e.g. layout plan. Traditionally, (not Feng Shui) the Chinese do not like to move furniture around especially any furniture in the bedroom of conception e.g. most likely the master bedroom. Do take care! Cecil Lee
  11. Dear Vicky, Gua or Kua is based on Ba Chai or Eight House or 4 good / 4 bad directions. Thus although it has an element, it is better to associate your Gua with directions - primarily. vicky conjamalay wrote: hello sir, my kua element is fire and my feng shui element is earth. Could you tell me how these two elements make their effect on me. Waiting for reply. Thanks. I am not sure what you mean by Feng Shui element? Earth? Do you actually mean your Ba Zi element e.g. Strong or weak earth? If you truly mean Ba Zi, then, it is much easier to associate it with the Five elements concept. Thus as mentioned above: Either a person is a Strong Earth or a weak earth person. Thus, a simple association is by colours: Strong Earth person for eg. :- Favourable colours: Metal (white or gold); Water (Blue, black or grey) and Wood (Green or brown) Ba Zi is also associated with one's Heaven Luck e.g. 10 year luck periods, what type of career ? etc.... Ba Zi is associated with what we are born with. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  12. Dear Ann, No. Should concentrate on the MS# with WS#. For example under Period 8, all centre palace has base = #8. But when determing the characteristics of the centre palace, often MS# with WS# are taken into account. Normally, the base = #8 remains "silent". Warmest Regards, Cecil
  13. Dear Anon, There are two considerations: Overall, the plot of land has good shapes and forms Feng Shui. As we are now under Period 8; it is always prudent like all Feng Shui assessments to look at or study the Feng Shui qi of Period 7 vs Period 8 for the specific unit in a development. Some homes or aparatment(s) can benefit with a change in qi. While others may have to consider or dwell deeper into each sector to check to see whether it is more beneifical or worse-off to fly to a new Period 8 chart. For example, because of the frontage of the home; on the surface, it is good to fly to Period 8. However, on closer study or scrutiny of the flying star charts, it was found that e.g. nasty stars such as #5 and #2 has flown into one or several bedrooms. Thus, could be a case of more $$$ wealth but poor health! Do remember that once we had "flown" a home or apartment tothe next period, we cannot time travel and reverse it back to a previous period. Thus while we can fly to Period 8. We cannot swimbackstroke and reverse a home to Period 7! Warmest Regards, Cecil Anonymous wrote: Hi I noted that your website has a good review report of The Tropica condominium. 14. Dear Ann, One has to be extra careful in enhancing a sector with mountain star 9. In your case, you have not mentioned about what are the other two related stars? WS#? and Base (Palace star) #? For example, MS, WS, Base: 9, 6, 3 is often associated with fire at heaven's gate 9, 5, 2 is often associated with sickness : where 9 fire inflames 5 & 2 9, 3, 6 associated with legal issues 9, 7, 9 grave financial loss So, how to activate mountain star in many of such situations! It is very common for all of us who do not consider that there is a leak, bu instead assume that there is "wealth" (wealth sector). Please check the associated flying stars at that sector as mentioned above. If it is a leak, fix-it-first! Warmest Regards, Cecil ann j wrote: Dear sir, I want to activate mountain star 9 in Ne sector .can mountain star be activated with red colourother than solid object please reply Thank you
  15. Dear Lisa, 1. Under Flying Star Feng Shui, the facing palace is particularly important. And of course, the wider this facing direction, the greater the influence is on this sector. 2. For example, under Period 8, SW2 or SW3 Flying Star chart, we have MS#8 with WS#2 with BASE#5. What this means is that there is a favourableMS#8 =currrent prosperity. Which happens to be networking, relationship luck star at the frontage of the home. However, don't be too happy, yet. As we can have prosperity, because of the MS#8; there are also two unlucky stars #5 misfortune/sickness #2 sickness stars. Thus, what it meansis that one can have good networking /family relationship, one has to watch out for one's health. Thus your 2, 5, 8 combo sounds good but beware of health issues! Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Lisa DeCesare wrote: Dear Cecil: Thanks for answering my last message so quickly. It made me feel important. 16. Dear Anon, 1. Ideally, for designing a company logo, it is advantages that look at the elements of a sole proprietor to determine his/her company logo. 2. However, given that there are four partners, this makes it so much more complicated to find a company logo BASED on four person's bazi profile. 3. This is because, most likely in a four-some like your situation, one may end up having 3 or four colours for the logo. Not practical. 4. Thus in your situation: 4.1 Either reduce to one ortwo MAJOR partners or 4.2 Design a logo based on the INDUSTRY your company is in. 5. Since your business deals with real estate, then the industry that it is in is considered as the "earth" element. Reference: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-5element.htm Thus, harmonious colours for a Real estate company are: a. Wood (Green or brown); Fire (Red, pink or purple) and Earth (Yellow, cream or beige) or Company aspires to be "wealthy" (or largest), first:- b. Wood (Green or brown) with Earth (Yellow) or Company aspires to be the "top" (top position),in the trade:- c. Earth (Yellow) with Water (Blue) Warmest Regards, Cecil Anonymous wrote: New real estate loan business with four partners. 17. Dear Anon, 1. Yes, it is preferred that the bedroom door is closed. 2. A plant may not be appropriate especially if the staircase is not large but just nice for one or two persons to walk past. 3. 18. Dear Violet, 1. You have a good point. Not all things that influence has more than 33.3% space. In general, many FS practitioners look at colours e.g. on a wall; curtains and bedsheets. And thus this is how the 33.3% "influence comes into being". 2. You are correct to say that small windchimes and bagua mirrors are small, yet do not occupy 33.3 per cent of space. These category of objects should be distinct from what was mentioned under Para 1. 3. Wind chimes In general, wind chime is suppose to help neutralise bad Flying Star numbers like #5 misfortune/sickness and various combinations of #5 with #2 sickness and /or with #9 fire element. As these elements: #5 , #2, are considered as bad earth element (often combined with #9 fire fuels earth);traditionally, many practitioners advise "moving metal" such as a wind chime or even a pendulum clock (moving metal) to help neutralise it. 4. Ba gua mirror(s) Please goto the conference: Photo Tours of Interest (with pictures):- Do a SEARCH for " Part IV - Other matters relating to Ba Gua" or "Part III - Concave Mirror Type" "Part II - `Protection' type of mirrors" "Part I - Types of Ba Gua Mirrors - Basic Warmest Regards, Cecil Violet Tang wrote: Dear Sir/ Madam, You wrote that for something to have an influence it needs to be more than 33.3% of the space. 19. Dear Violet, Use this as a Reference: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-5element.htm For example: Ifa person is a Strong Metal, person. Then in terms ofelements, being strong metal, need: 1. Water to help draw out or reduce her Strong Metal element. 2. When water is increased, need wood to draw it out. 3. When wood is also increased, need fire to reduce it. Thus under the productive sequence: For a Strong element person, look at the Productive cycle chart and move forward 3 elements: Thus as mentioned above, if one is a Strong Metal, look forward three elements: Water, Wood and Fire are favourable to the Strong Metal person. The Destructive Cycle Actually, this can be quite misleading way to say about this cycle. For example, we next look at the Destructive Cycle: For a Strong Metal person, his "wealth element" is WOOD. Wood is thus considered as his wealth element. Here imagine a strong metal axe is used to chop down a tree (wood). Or let's imagine, we purchase a block of wood for US$5 dollars. Using our METAL implements, an artist carve out a beautiful object. And this object is now worth US$50 dollars - as a nice piece of work of art. Again, let's look at the Destructive cycle: As the person is a Strong Metal person, FIRE element can be used to MELT the strong metal. Here, FIRE is known as the person's POWER and AUTHORITY. Thus, if a Strong Metal person work as e.g. a lawyer or in marketing or sales, (Fire element) then this is his/her power and authority element. Yes, under Flying Star Feng Shui, the balcony of a condo can be activated. For example, if we draw a Flying Star pie chart. The pie lines can be extended outwards. And the balcony can come under one of the sectors. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Dear Sir/Madam, If an element is strong and you want to balance it, how do you decide which cycle to use- the productive, destructive or exhausative? Can you jump between cycles? Also, is the balcony of a condominium part of the floor plan and can you activate that area of the house in general? Thank you so much! Love, Violet
  20. Dear Benjamin, Please refer to the attached sample report. Sample Gender: Male Conversion of Date of Birth: Solar Calendar: 17 Oct 1980 between 1.00 p.m. to 2.59 p.m. Lunar Calendar: 1980, 9th month, 9 day, between 1.00 p.m. to 2.59 p.m. In this example, the arrow shows the direction, he should be facing. Thus his best work directions are: Sitting facing Direction: North-East Exact Degree: 22.5 to 67.4 Description: This is your Prosperity direction or Sitting facing Direction: South-West Exact Degree: 202.5 to 247.4 Description: This is your Excellent direction. Yes, the arrow shows the direction, one should face, when sitting down to work or study. When negotiating deals, one can use this principle i.e. in this sample, this male person should be sitting facing NE (Prosperity) or SW (Excellent) directions. 21. Dear Phyllis, Thanks for proving a sketch of the layout of the bedroom. Although you have stated that the person sleeping here is Gua (Kua)5, there is no indication of a compass marking to show where the North direction is. As such, I have drawn a sample sketch. 22. Dear Jace, To be honest, some Chinese who in one way or another if told of their favourable and unfavourable colours would tend to dwell in being more cautious when choosing a vehicle colour. Personally, I do share the same sentiments. And have always tried to choose a car colour that suits me. However, I hope you understand this is honestly more of a "personal-thing" and how much we personally either being "influenced" by it. For weak metal persons, based on the Five elements concept, yes, black = water may not be as suitable as a "metal" element colour or "earth" colours. On a scientific level, (Not Feng Shui); previously, there were some insurance studies that show that red cars have a higher rate of accidents. Most likely due to the colour of the stop lights red and the entire car being red. The next "worst" colour is suppose to be grey. As it was believed that grey closely match the"road colour" and perhaps, harder to be recognised. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: ng jace wrote: I am a Water Tiger and my wife is a fire horse. 23. Dear Anon, Although it would be good if you do have a sketch. However, by what you had briefly described, this sounds out of the ordinary.. and indeed sounds.. bad! Indeed! Try not to buy the home if possible or if you have done more investigations. In addition, if this is an existing home, see if it is possible to also find out the "history" of the home. If in doubt, do not buy this home. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Anonymous wrote: We are thinking of buying a house but it is at the cornerof a V-shaped road.We have been advised by 'well-meaning' friends that it's bad fengshui as the 2 arms of the V lead into the house - like 'sha qi'. 24. Dear Anon, Generally, there are two approaches with regards to placing a water feature: 1. Persional feeling (Most common method) Here, as you have mentioned, most likely, either the location choosen seems to be an appropriate choice or because of the home layout; we most likely find that this is one of the better choice. 2. Applying Flying Star Feng Shui As Flying star Feng Shui uses a "scientific" method of determining where a water feature is useful to be placed. Frankly, not many people may want to go for the second approach. However, without using or applying the second approach, there is no reference to state where we should place the fish tank other than using our personal feeling. In general, particularly in an open space such as the living room or even dining area; if we do have a water star WS#8 at that sector, we can use water to enhance our current prosperity! Even a location that has WS#1 can also enhance water wealth. Even if the living room does not have good water stars, a water feature may be used to drown bad stars in that sector i.e. #5 or #2 or combinations of them. Thus, in general, if we do apply a "scientific" means; we can often either use a water feature to: 1. Enhance our wealthby activating WS#1 or WS#8 2. Neutralising or destroying bad stars #5 or #2 Frankly, I have given a very rough idea. As each 20 Year Flying Star Feng Shui sector also interects with two other variables: Mountain Star# and Base (Palace) star #.Often, also the yearly star is also taken into consideration for the placement of a water feature. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Anonymous wrote: Hi I wish to install a water feature in my home, where is the best position to place it. at the suggestion of standing at the doorfacing into the house
  25. Dear Lisa, If you have read previous messages, usually, the fastest way to change to a new period is thru a major renovation. However, based on your description of work done, these are mostly cosmetic changes, thus most likely have not changed qi, yet. Currently, there may be some differences in the thinking as to what constitues a change of qi or period if one does not do a major renovation in the home. However, I will try to explain as best as I can some of the more realistic ways that we can help our home change it's qi:- 1. One school of thought is that unlike a landed property that has a roof, thus often, a large number of practitioner would advise to remove roof tiles (more the better) preferably for at least 100 days. However, for an apartment, we cannot simply tear off the ceiling rite? If so, one method is to symbolically repaint all the ceiling within a session (e.g. within a week or so). 2. In addition to the above, the consensus is that there must be "yang qi" or activity in the home to help change the qi. Thus, some of the common things done are: a. inviting a dragon dance troupe into the home and or happy celebrations (birthdays etc...) 3. Preferably, but often out of our control is that the entire building is given a coat of paint. And beside painting our home ceiling, we could also repaint the walls of the entire home o give it a coat of fresh paint. Other minor works like polishing, vanishing parquet bedroom floor tiles and polishing marble / granite living room floor tiles. Some other minor works may include change of windows, main entrance door etc... 4. Often, it is also sensible to do a "major" space clearing especially if our home becomes unduly untidy, cluttered etc... 5. As mentioned under para 2, (above) celebrations could include lion dance troupe, children's birthday where we have lots of young ones "running around" playing ... lots of yang qi. Thus, it is best to have three or more of such celebrations to encourage "Yang" qi or yang energy into he home. 6. A "south" facing person living in a "NE" facing home:- We human beings have a date of birth. A home also has a date of birth. Compass school Feng Shui uses two theories: Eight House and Flying Star Feng Shui. Thus, even if often a "south" facing person may not be suitable to a particular home e.g. NE; however, we have to study the Flying Star of that home to see if the home could "boost" our overall luck or not? In general, NE facing homes under Period 8 (plus depending) on the landscape and layout plan may sometimes have better earth luck (Feng Shui). If so, even if the home may not be suitable to us (Eight House) but because it perhaps may have superior Feng Shui, could tilt the balance and may give us better luck. In another example: Say you are suitable to "south" facing. And your home is a NW facing home. Many north west facing homes particularly under Period 7 has very little luck as the "water" wealth sector is trapped in the middleof the home. In such a situation, not only is the home not as suitable to you; but also the earth luck (Feng Shui) is not as good. What happens? Both of these luck are not there. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Lisa DeCesare wrote: Dear Robert Lee: I am new to visiting this site but it is proving to be very valuable. Here's my situation.
