Dear Anon, 1.It is always best to understand each concept or theory in order to have a good grasp or proper foundation to help us achieve success. 2. The first thing that comes to my mind when you mentioned Gua or Kua is: 2.1 What is it based on? When we first try to apply this we need to provide an input. For Gua or kua numbers : we merely need our year of birth. However, contrast this carefully with the inputs needed for ba zi analysis. For ba zi (Pillars of destiny) we not only need to have the Year of birth, but also at least the Month, Day of birth. And if we can, try to also use our hour of birth. 2.2 So what is so different with these two concepts? We can tell at a…

Dear Anon, "From what I've read so far, every room is in the wrong place, lighting is bad, beds face wrong way - I am overwhelmed and don'tt know where to start! " My personal advise is that if you are doing Feng Shui on your own, not to do it in a real `hurry'. For those who want to do it immediately should consult a competent Feng Shui practitioner. Otherwise, if you want to do it on your own shoul spent time understanding at LEAST the following MAIN TOPICS:- 1. Shapes and Form 2. Compass Schools: Flying Star and Eight House. Alternatively, many people have lived without ever knowing what Feng Shui is and are equally successful in their live. Some people have also …

Dear Anon, Usually there are two ways of looking at the colour scheme of a bedroom or room:- A simplistic view:- This is by way of checking the family member's ba zi element and strength. For example, if the child or person occupying the bedroom is a weak water person, then the best colour for the bedroom is based on two colours:- 1. Metal (white or gold) 2. Water (blue, black or grey) In the above example, the room can be painted in neutral white. And curtains or bedsheets in blue or say grey, in colour. In a higher dimension of Feng Shui, the Flying star Feng shui is also combined to look at the bedroom. For example, say the person who is staying in the bedroom…

Dear Kaushal, Since you are a weak fire person, the best element here is wood element i.e. green or brown. The next best colour is fire i.e. pink, purple or red. The controlling element for fire are: 1. Metal to control the wood which is your production element. 2. Water to destroy fire. (avoid using this combination unless the card turns out to be all RED.) Here, for example, the `trick' is to use black font (black represents water element). However, since the card is small, you can chose colors based on the above. Do remember that the Five Elements concept is about seeking a balance also. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, You brought up an interesting question. 1. Yes, flowers can be categorised into the various elements. Since most flowers are circular, some FS practitioners may classify them as metal element. But often, the colour of the flower - is often what many FS practioners - determine their element. 2. For many plants that does not often flower, then the leaves are looked at to try and fit them into a specific element. 3. Frankly, all the above are considered `peanuts' Feng Shui or not so important. 4. More importantly, we should look at the concept of Yin and yang. This must be in harmony. And under the Five Elements concept, the most effective is a blend of all Five e…

Dear Sheridan, For example, if you are a strong Wood, then the few colours that are good for you are based on your favourable elements. Favaourable Colours for strong Wood is Fire and Metal, so colours are red, white / gold. For example. So you have to use the Pillars of Destiny report in the My FengShui website (http://login.geomancy.net) to help you determine your true birth element. Well, few things you can do. Using the Eight House Report where you will determine all your 4 good and 4 bad directions try to face in the directions which are your 4 good directions. This will bring you good luck especially if you can face in your Prosperity or Excellent direction.…

Dear Doris, To be pretty honest: there is often no right or wrong answers. Nor one camp can ever overwhelm the other to consider exactly what colors fit which elements. For example, it is very straight forward that all the primary colors such as (often those found on the color tv) e.g. Green, Blue and Red. And some also consider Yellow a primary color). From a hot-cold continuum or spectrum, colors would range from the hot end (Red) to the cold end (Blue or white). Grey is interesting. Because silver looks silver to us. But in my country, all our paper notes have a security thread -- threaded into each paper note. Humans when eyeing the notes will certainly see a g…

Dear Jace, To be honest, some Chinese who in one way or another if told of their favourable and unfavourable colours would tend to dwell in being more cautious when choosing a vehicle colour. Personally, I do share the same sentiments. And have always tried to choose a car colour that suits me. However, I hope you understand this is honestly more of a "personal-thing" and how much we personally either being "influenced" by it. For weak metal persons, based on the Five elements concept, yes, black = water may not be as suitable as a "metal" element colour or "earth" colours. On a scientific level, (Not Feng Shui); previously, there were some insurance studies that show…

1. In my opinion, honestly, it may or may not be coincidence! 2. As normally when we (professional) practitioners have to do an indepth study e.g. of one's home, check one's luck periods etc... 3. Assuming that there are currently no unlucky stars that appear for the home, then, it may be the case (associated) with what you had mentioned. 4. If your favourable elements are yellow (earth) and green/ brown (wood) than it is still best to go with these two colours. 5. In general, if you still continue to suffer an unlucky streak, without much improvement, then there is a higher weightage that this colour may likely have brought you inauspicious luck. Dear Anon, Anonymous wrote: Does colour of the floor tiles have any impact in FS? Caused apparently my boyfriend and i chose a glossy black floor tiles for the living/dining area and all our bedrooms. Colours plays a fairly big role in the Feng Shui. As it covers a big area of the room. So yes, it does have some impact. Black is generally Water element. So this will add water to the sector of the house. Also, dark colours will darken the room compared to light colours. Hope that helps. Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research

Dear Sophia, Generally, (or very generally), yes, south represents the fire element. To side-track-a-little: And in quite alot of past forum messages, I mentioned that for a kitchen at the south, it is acceptable to have the stove face a water position. This would not be ideal -- if the kitchen is located at the north. (water location). 2. Generally speaking, wood cabinets are in harmony with the kitchen since it has fire (stove) and wood element fuels fire (stove) - in a productive cycle. You can also read up an article, I wrote for the Home Concepts magazine - the article has been extracted to the forum. Do a search perhaps for "home concept" or "home concepts"…

Dear Anon, To be frank, it is quite difficult for me to give a definite answer as to whether it is Ok to paint the inside red. This is because, in a FS audit, many considerations are taken into consideration. If a deeper analysis is not required, then, perhaps, one may have to rely on one's six sense or ask family members for their comments. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Colour to Paint

Dear Emily, If one is applying Feng Shui, the basis of choosing colours to paint is based on one's ba zi (favourable) and if the house is owned by husband/wife, then especially for the bedroom and living room area, the binding element plus which sector the room is at can affect the consideration for the colours. Please note that this free advise forum does not cover personalised date of birth as this is usually needed in a ba zi analysis. Colours to paint is dependent on ba zi element and strength. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Shawn, Shawn lim wrote: The lucky/unfavourable colours are mentioned in mostly primary colours - red, yellow, blue etc. Yes, this is because these colours are the key colours that make up the other secondary colours. Shawn lim wrote: Orange, pink (fire/earth), purple/plums, copper (reddish) and grey.I am a bit confused about the colourbrown. Some say it is earth colour while others say its wood. which is it? Frankly, for secondary colour, it is harder to define due to the fact that if the colour is lighter/darker the element can be different. Orange for example, if light orange more ie more towards like gold colour, it is made up of more Yellow (earth) than Red…

1. In my opinion, this is pure common sense. 2. For example, the sentences that you wrote already given the clues OR red flags: You wrote: I know that white is my best favourable colour based on 8 characters. However in recent reports it is said that people of MY BIRTH YEAR should wear black in 2013. How can I achieve the best colour for me in the new year? 3. I know a recent Women's publication and their web advertisement which I saw running in google ads linked to this forum gives a guide to what to wear. 4. These are some considerations: 4.1. The article is generalised for a typical animal sign. And it is based on one's year of birth only. 4.2. For example, I …

Dear Veronique, 1. Although, further investigations may be required e.g. such as looking at the birth chart using say Flying Star. 2. However, under Shapes and Form Feng Shui observation, a good colour would be white or off-white or shades of white. Which represents the metal element. Try to avoid pink/purple or red or shades of this colour. 3. If blue colour is ever used here -- this has carefully evaluated especially under Para 1. Blue can go both ways - i.e. it can either be used to " create " wealth or alternatively be a double edged sword i.e. like hot and cold (blue vs red). Much investigation may be required if this colour is used. 4. Alternative colours can be us…

Dear Anon, 1. Five Elements concept and external facade of the building (or hotel) Under Feng Shui, often a competitor or even a person who wants to build a new home/office complex or any other business could employ a FS practitioner. More often, the FS practitioner will first scan the immediate environment to see what type of building could best be built on the site or plot of land. For example, if the neighbourhood is predominatly or has flat structures or rectangular shaped structures. This represents the earth element. Under the Five elements concept, the FS practitioner could either:- 1. Propose a tall and "thin" structure that is symbolic of a tree or (wood el…

Dear Alice, No, the colours does not matter nor the background. What is more important are; 1. The number of fishes. Often, it is 8 or 9 fishes. 2. What is most important is to look at the fishes. They should look graceful, not exactly plump but has a nice profile; (I hope you get what I mean) i.e. they should not look thin or skinny or undernourished. They should seem to swim and look "nice". Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Ken, Quote: Ken L. wrote: However in my four pillars, I have lots of water, in fact too much. Of course that makes me strong wood too but water becomes my unfavourable element. 1. In this case, you were derived as a strong wood person as the breakdown of your chart has lots of water. 2. As are a strong wood person, then your best colours are: 1. Fire (Red, pink or purple) 2. Metal (White, silver or gold). 2.1 Your wealth colour is Metal. Quote: Ken L. wrote: Someone else say never to have too much water effect in my home, including painting blue because I need to get rid some water in my life. 2.2 Thus, if you are the main breadwinner of the home, based on yo…

Dear Han, 1. No it is my opinion, that the two round columns are part of the structure of the building and I feel that it is not `symbolic' of the two objects that can form a triangulation. 2. You would need e.g. two pots of plants on each side (as an example) to use the `triangular effect'. Well, this is based on my personal experience and it may vary with other practitioners on this. Warmest Regards, Cecil

I have observed all good Shapes and Forms of Feng Shui in my bedroom (including the position of my bed) which is located in the East-Northeast sector of the house. I am a number 4 Qua. I have the opportunity of place my bed so my head would be "facing" either the North, East or South direction which are three of my best directions. I am worried since according to Flaying Star Feng Shui there is conflicts in this areas in the Year of the Horse. Does this affect the direction of my head when I sleep? Which would be the best direction of my head since I am waiting for big changes in my life, in my work and with help of authorities in my field of work granting awards and pai…
