Dear Sunny, It is highly unusual to find a toilet under the staircase. The staircase, must be very high. It is still acceptable to have the toilet under the staircase, if it does not have facility for bathing etc... where one can spent sometime there. If the toilet only has e.g. a toilet bowl, a basin, it is ok. Better still if one side of the toilet is attached to an external wall. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. As the saying goes Many roads lead to Rome. 2. Similarly there are different methods of taking compass directions. If followed closely will come to the same results. For those who know how to use the Luo Pan to take readings, then that is fine i.e. learned from a proper source. 3. I always believe that one must follow a method `totally'. It is best to avoid `reading' between the lines i.e. hear of one method, read it half-way and continue with another method. 4. The method proposed in this site is listed under: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm The above method is soley based on using an ordinary compass. Let's not mix an apple and an orange and c…

Dear Anon, As the protusion is a wooden cabinet, and acts like a overhead beam, you can try to use big metal `6 coins' tied together with a red string and stick it below the cabinet (less obstrusive) from view. However, if the cabinet is made of metal, fire element would be needed. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. I agree with you that lots of Singaporeans have no more space in their flats for a shoe rack inside their house or it is too inconvenient as there is no second door. 2. As I mentioned, ( it is only my opinion and `habbit' as I believe that for now, shoe rack placement is secondary. Not much research has been done in this area). 3. Usually, it is preferred that shoe racks have ventilation holes and a cloth would be an equally good alternative. 4. This area has to be looked into further. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, In such a case: 1. The person having the `spook' should sleep closer to the compass sector while the other party sleeps further away. 2. It depends on `how far' you would like to apply Feng Shui. 3. Usually my advise is to find out more or have a `bigger' picture of the situation. In this regards, you may want to consider looking at other `issues' such as: 3.1. Is the shapes and form of my house `OK'? i.e. Is my main door `protected' from poison arrows (if any) 3.2. The site of my house OK? For example is there a solid backing and clear space at the frontage of the house? Is there a missing corner? 3.3. In the interior of the home, where is the position of the …

Dear Alice, Nowadays, it is harder to apply Pillars of Occupation as I mentioned earlier that much of our work or for white collar workers much of our work relates / involves the computer. In general, we should still take into consideration our `core' work e.g. Accounting work. Overall, one way to look at it is that we should consider computers as tools to aid in our work. It is not like one who does computer programming but rather, most of us are simply users of ready made software such as Microsoft Word, Excel etc... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Ideally, it is best to look at the layout chart i.e. if the outside wall is parallel to the inside wall and on the same `line' or sector, it is better to place it at the outside wall. But if the outside wall comes close to other sectors, then it is best to place it inside the toilet. If it is placed in the toilet, check the condition of the coins regularly. Or alternatively, `seal' it in a water proof plastic. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear T Wong, Please see below: Imagine this: if the ceiling above you is flat, then there is no `beam'. If the ceiling above has a supporting beam to support the structure of the above unit/floor than, it is a beam. Under Feng Shui, even if there is a ceiling beam but if it is fully covered under a false ceiling, this no longer becomes a `threat.' Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Please see below:- Yes, one should stand at the centre-point of the house facing the main door to take a reading. No, based on all readings used for inputs in this website we use the method as mentioned under the link http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm Yes, this is the method used here. ---- On a different subject --- If one uses the Luopan, a different method is adopted. But as mentioned in a few messages, most readers can easily get hold an ordinary compass thus, this is the principal method, used in this website. Since we are using the ordinary compass, all the `information' and instructions on how to read, and input the figures in thi…

Dear Anon, 1. This arised because a user asked whether to cover the shoe rack. Earlier, I posted that it is of course much better to remove the shoe rack if it is at the main entrance area. 2. The correct way to practise Feng Shui is to manage the entire house e.g. make sure that everything is inbalance first. I merely mentioned that whether to cover or remove the shoe rack is secondary. I believe what you have asked was, can things be changed by removing the shoe rack or covering it. I mentioned that, it is not the most important thing to do in Feng Shui. For example, if there is a hole in a ship. Even if it is a small one, there will still be leaks in it. So, it is in…

Dear Anon, Where possible, try to allow Qi to meander. It is better to `avoid' multiple "layers" of open areas (if you can). Since you are more familar with your home, can you feel a rush of air when standing at your door i.e. at certain times? If you have windows on the other walls of the room, this would lessen the effect. For example if you have windows only at the North and South of the house, wind depending on the time of day will blow from e.g. high pressure zone to low pressure zone and vice versa. And if you only have windows at North or South or ( East and West ), then you may feel the gush of air pressure flowing directly from North to South or vice versa. I h…

Dear Anon, 1. Thanks for your reply. 2. In my opinion, based on what you have mentioned, this should not be an issue. The cactus plant and the purpose why it was placed there does not seem to pose a threat to your home. 3. A threat is usually one where it slices thru the main door e.g. at the middle or if one stands at the door, one can see e.g. a lone lamp post. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. Ideally, based on Shapes and Form Feng Shui, the kitchen, door where possible should not be next to the main door. 2. In the above situation, try to have the stove face in the house `to keep the warm' in. Yes, it is not bad an idea to hang a curtain cloth here. As Qi can still move in and out but slowed down. Where possible close the toilet door when not in use. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Alex, Frankly, I am not familiar with the Feng Shui consultants in Tokyo. Are there in the yellow pages or `word of mouth.' Usually, quite alot of Feng Shui practitioners I understand in Japan uses 9-Star Ki (both popular in UK also). As mentioned, 9-Star Ki and Traditional Feng Shui (or Flying Star is identical). However, the way it is done differs and thus, it is not advisable to `mix' the two as you may get different results. Either you follow 9-Star Ki or Flying Star. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Gwen, 1. Currently, the main concern is to allow Qi to meander gently into the house. So clear or transparent is acceptable. 2. One characteristic of Qi flowing directly from the front door to the back is a broken marriage, which in many cases, lead to divorce. I have personally seen a few cases, of such characteristics for some homes. 3. Taping plastic wrap as you mentioned is only a temporary solution. It would be best to cover it e.g. a decorative plywood laminate as an example. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Ann, Thank you for the information. Currently, it is difficult to know what is the actual cause. This is because, only a full audit and especially a site survey would be able to pin-point what is actually `wrong'. There are a few points: 1. Usually, due to time dimensions, unauspicious stars could have `flown' to that sector of the bedroom. 2. An indirect result could also be the clearing of trees. I am not suggesting anything but, if dogs become `noisy', without apparent reason, more observations may be required on this. 3. Do stand at the window, and see if there are any poison arrow aimed at the house. Especially, a lone lamp post which may now become prominent, b…

Dear Kewpie, 1. It is very difficult to comment on the `generic' term, a townhouse. This is because, it also depends on the location it is sited, the plot of land holding the row of houses. The elevation, the front, the back areas in relation to Shapes and Form. 2. Personally, I have also purchased a townhouse unit, two years back and now it is nearly ready for occupation. What I did, to take advanage is, to looking at the Flying Star, using the Good House program which Robert specifically developed, mainly for our own use, to locate the best house amongst one of the town house. 3. We had an advantage because speed was essential in such a situation. We used our program t…

Dear Steven, 1. Thanks very much for the information and most of us will look forward for the future phots of the antic bells. 2. There are quite alot of `inventions' or `cures' or enhancers in the market. Overall, I believe bells are near eqivalent of wind chimes as they make noise. Some Feng Shui practitioners prefer the use of grandfather (or pendulum) clocks as it makes a constant `tine' or tick tock metal sound. 3. In Hong Kong, some practitioners or manufacturers also come up with things like Qi detector. Once again, many thanks:) Warmest Regards, Cecil
