These are some considerations: 1. In theory, what you mentioned is acceptable. 2. In practise (NON-Feng Shui considerations), since this is an apartment; and especially if the balcony is full view "of the public". Often, many Management Council of such apartments forbid e.g. hanging clothes at the balcony etc... 2.1. Thus, not sure if one infringe the code of your apartment. And given that this is the frontage; "open air cooking may arise complaints from neighours of the smell from this "balcony" kitchen. 2.2. Most likely there is no proper wash basin at the balcony area. Thus, processed food and washing etc. may have to be done at the original kitchen. 3. You wrote: 1) Having a kitchen in the South will be bad for us? 3.1 Common sense says that if the overall Feng Shui especially the apartment has exceptional or excellent Shapes and Forms; this is a plus point. 3.2 Thus, if the apartment already scores 80 marks, having a kitchen in the South won't kill. 3.3 But if the apartment's OVERALL Feng Shui is at the borderline mark then having a kitchen in the South may be bad. 4. Some homes (apartments) are already polished gem or unpolished gem; having a kitchen in the South can still be acceptable. 5. Therefore, IT DEPEND's! If the apartment is already considered like a 10 year old run down 1,000 cc car; even a flaw like having a kitchen in the south can "KILL". 6. Thus, having a kitchen is NOT CAST in stone.

These are some considerations: 1. The good news is that you are not the first person or persons to face such a dilemma or situation. 2. This has more to do with beliefs or Chinese belief: that if one moves one's bed during pregnancy, then may lead to miscarriage. 3. Thus, there are many who were in your position before. 3.1 Since the idea is not to move the bed during pregnancy; the most common method is that should one move out of the rented place, the pregnant lady should not or no longer enter that bedroom; that's all. 3.2 Since it is a rented home, most likely the pregnant lady would not need to go into that bedroom anymore. 3.3 Even if one removes an existing bed; again, the pregnant lady don't see it being moved and placed in the new home be it at the in-law's place. 3.4 Thus under Para 3.3, there is often no need to give up that bed. Alternatively, if one wants to buy a new bed or sleep on an existing bed (don't move it) at in-laws is still acceptable. 4. There are many others who, face similar situation e.g. rent is up or sold home and need to vacate it. Again, you are not alone. Others have done similar things or situation. So what is there to be at wit's end? As all these things would further add to the burden on your first OBJECTIVE! Good Luck!

How, one would have wished that the walls can whisper and give one the answers... But theset of 3 x questions under this thread belongs to such a category:- Feng Shui Triage Proper trouble-shooting is required. Any short cuts? YES: Flip or toss the coin: HEADS OR TAILS? There goes part of the answer?

These are some (common sense) considerations: 1. Take the example of a class of students. Majority of the time, the norm is that their results may be like a BELL curve. 1.1. There are always TOP students e.g. Top 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 1.2. There are those in between 10th boy/girl to 20th place. 1.3. There are those 21st to the last boy. 2. It is the same thing. 2.1. Normally in a development, there are excellent to lemon stacks unit. 2.2. Common sense says that if your choice stack (or the unit that one has chosen) can behave:- 2.2.1. Some units are a polished or unpolished GEM. Thus even if it does not suite the breadwinner, it does not really matter that much. 2.2.2. Other stacks / units may range from average luck to even lemons. Of course, if you choose a unit and it happens to have poor Feng Shui be it shapes and forms + flying stars etc.. and furthermore, it is the least suitable to the breadwinner than, it is stacking badly for the person. 3. In addition, these are further considerations:- Summary of Sample Person's (Owner/Breadwinner) Eight House Chart. Direction Location Status suitable for North-West Excellent Very Good: Prime Location, ideal for vitality Front door, beds and religious altars. North Irritation Bad: Petty annoyances, disease, headaches, theft and infidelity. Toilet or kitchen. North-East Health Good: Ideal situation for speedy recovery. Beds, doors, master bedroom and the dining table. West Prosperity Good: The Best location. Money luck and promotion. door, room doors, kitchen door, beds, working desks. East Spook Bad: Uneasy, theft, robbery and financial loss. Storeroom or toilet. South-West Longevity Good: Ideal for health. Beds, bedrooms and dining table. South Death Bad: Poor health, accidents, misfortune and loss. Storeroom or toilet. South-East Disaster Bad: Quarrels, frustration, disputes and legal problems. Storeroom or toilet. 4. In addition, even if the apartment is not suitable to the breadwinner, it can range from Inauspicious to average as shown below:- Type of House Direction of Frontage Excellent House NE1 (22.5-37.4) , NE2 (37.5-52.4) , NE3 (52.5-67.4) , SW1 (202.5-217.4) , W2 (262.5-277.4) , W3 (277.5-292.4) Auspicious House NW2 (307.5-322.4) , NW3 (322.5-337.4) , SW2 (217.5-232.4) , SW3 (232.5-247.4) , W1 (247.5-262.4) , NW1 (292.5-307.4) AverageHouse E1 (67.5-82.4) , E2 (82.5-97.4) , E3 (97.5-112.4) , SE1 (112.5-127.4) , SE2 (127.5-142.4) , SE3 (142.5-157.4) Inauspicious House N1 (337.5-352.4) , N2 (352.5-7.4) , N3 (7.5-22.4) , S1 (157.5-172.4) , S2 (172.5-187.4) , S3 (187.5-202.4) Therefore due diligence should be considered. And there is NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL OR NONE in most cases.

Frankly, how I wish, that : "When one writes three paragraphs, each paragraph ends with a question mark; the answer will automatically appear". If Feng Shui is so simple, then I really don't know what is Feng Shui. Unfortunately, it is not so simple as that. No offence, might as well flip a coin: heads or tails.

Within this link, you should be able to understand this word: LIMITATION The Three-Step-Approach In many instances, limitation simply means: either you face your good direction or....................... under this concept....

These are some considerations: 1. It depends! 1.1. In a neighbourhood school and within a non-streaming class; if we were to grade the students in a class, it would form a "Bell curve". 1.2. Thus, even within various condos whether they are in the NE or other parts of SGP; in many instances, also, each stack and even in some instances, different storeys would also often take the profile of a "Bell curve". 2. Frankly, there are two approaches: 2.1. In the past and current; common sense says that bring along all family members to view the place. Thus, if one does not want to get a specific Feng Shui service like Can or cannot buy; then continue to view based on personal feel. 2.2. It may not be possible to get the correct information as to why the owners or subsidiary proprietors want to sell their home? It is nice to know the surrounding reason for the owner selling the unit - if possible. 2.3. Some would narrow down to a unit and before placing an option to purchase or prior to the purchase, may consider getting a geomancer to advice on whether : Can or cannot buy. 3. Often, if the unit is not as suitable, then, some geomancer would advise what to look for. And this is a good learning curve = which helps (you) to further narrow down on the facing of the unit to look for. 4. Location, location and location. Thus what is the use of a geomancer telling you that The Florida is fantastic but unfortunately, the unit that one selects may be one of the worst and may even be worst off then the condo he/she ranked as last resort. 5. If you have the time, you may want to consider reading some of the resources on Can or cannot buy http://geomancy.sg Which holds some clue as to the various flavours of such a service. 6. Finally, there is often no such thing as a perfect home (apartment). And often, an apartment can be ranked along the Bell curve: Excellent, Good (Polished gem or unpolished gem) to a 10 year old run down 1,000cc car and even to the equivalent of a LEMON.

In this extract of just one of the past cases; go to "LOOK HERE". [8] & [8] - Prosperity good wealth wasted at the back of the flat. This is fact of life for this apartment based on Flying Star Feng Shui. Unfortunately, such Feng Shui is not about either make believe, or pretend that sleeping over night and the "problem" disappears. Thus, banging one's head against the kitchen wall ain't going to help. Have to find other areas to improve or reduce "leaks".

1. Please note that there is no such thing as a perfect home. Even if we were to built our home, there are often still - some flaws be it minor or major. 2. Don't over-eat concepts like Eight House (4 Good/Bad directions) as what is most important STILL is personal feelings which is strongly associated with Shapes and Forms Feng Shui. 3. For example, even if one's good direction is directly facing a window or glare from the sunlight; after a while; even if it is a good direction, one may get headache from the glare! More... You wrote: 2) I plan on using the second bedroom as a office. I can face directly South near the far corner with my back against a wall. It is on the 3rd floor, but my back will face a window ever so slightly. We have read different things about this. Some say this is fine, because it is a home office. Others say that I should drop drapes in front of the window.. What are your thoughts on this? Most important thing is where is the natural light filtering into the room. So, what's wrong with one's back face a window? Could be if one is no offense surfing an illegal site or doing something sensitive and afraid of the whole world spying through the window(s)! If not, why should one care? Common sense says that this is an acceptable position since light filters into the room and lights up just behind us. Thus some do not need to open the window. In countries like Singapore, NY and major cities, I am sure, many bosses have their own rooms up sky high in a skyscraper. And how often is their backs against the window? Plenty of times! And many buildings even have a RED triangle marking right behind the boss window for fire-fighting access if any. So what is the big deal, here? You wrote: 3) My girlfriend wants to set up a dining room table as her office on the 2nd level (first residence level). She would face South, without a wall behind her or in front of her. She would face the kitchen. Would this be okay? Frankly, don't make Feng Shui into some kind of "religion or rather taboo". Such writing can be considered as being too myopic or rather too looney tunes. It is like when we are a student. So the excuse for not doing well is because? Teacher, I don't think I will do well as I am facing WEST! You wrote: 4) In terms of the stove, the knobs face west. We read that we can use a portable stove that faces north or south. Do you agree on this? This is not going to harm anybody. For example, some people asked, must I select an auspicious date for a new home e.g.. start of renovations / move-in. This are considered NICE-TO have and not a MUST-have. You wrote: 5) We are unsure of the where the toilets are specially, but we could send you a floor plan if that would help. This is only a General Advise forum. And there are no guarantees as to whether it will be answered especially if it gets more and more personal.

You wrote: 1) It is a 3 story apartment. The first story is really non existent except that the front door opens to a very small (couple feet) walk-way which goes directly to a staircase that goes upstairs. We read online that this can be bad. We read on your site that it might be okay. Is it okay to have the front door open to a staircase that immediately goes upstairs to the apartment? This is based on symbolism in Feng Shui. Contrary to what you are thinking; it is not the idea of "that the staircase that goes upstairs" but rather; the symbolism that wealth from the upper floor (gravity) flows down the stairs and OUT of the apartment. Thus, it implies wealth flowing out and out of the home .... This is based on SYMBOLISM, that's all. And not due to some hocus pocus or some Voodoo Feng Shui concept. If one can accept it or if there are considered not more than 3 or more major "leaks" it is achievable.

In Feng Shui you are right to use that term or one can equally say "it is a pity the wealth location is wasted at the kitchen." Whatever description, am I correct to say, it ain't good to hear about it = inauspicious. Don't expect a miracle cure ON THIS subject matter. Please re-read my previous postings on this thread.

These are useful resources on facing direction: http://forum.geomancy.net/phpforum/article.php?bid=2&fid=6&mid=32493&new= http://forum.geomancy.net/phpforum/article.php?bid=2&fid=6&mid=15673&new= http://forum.geomancy.net/phpforum/article.php?bid=2&fid=6&mid=15672&new= As for how do I determine the year build; there must be either some record of when the EXISTING building was built and 1st or initial occupation. May be can check with the landlord. For Flying Star Feng Shui, it is slotting the home into one of the 20 year flying star periods i.e. 1983 to 2004. And one do not need to know the exact date e.g. 5 Jan 1985 10.55.55 secs type of thing.

Majority of the time, it is acceptable to have a water position at the FRONTAGE. The main reason is based on pure common sense. Whenever we have a pool of water or a water position: it simply implies that nothing else can be built on-top of or above this water position. If so, it allows for unobstructed view or clear space = bright hall effect. Which is advantages for the "collection" or accumulation of qi or allowing simply for better flow of AIR.

1. Shapes and Form vs Flying Star 1.1. From a Feng Shui point of view: the key essence is " Form prevails over substance " or rather bear this in mind "THE FORMS DETERMINE THE STARS, THE STARS DETERMINE THE FATE OF THE PEOPLE LIVING IN A HOME." 1.2. The above statement implies that Shapes and Forms prevail over Flying Star. 2. Bright Hall effect (clear space) + Water classics (determine water directions and positions) 2.1. In many instances, garden Feng Shui has more to do with the bright hall effect + water classics. 2.2. For example: Water classics would be a better choice to determine whether a water feature is needed or ESPECIALLY how the drainage WITHIN a property flows OUT of the home (EXIT the home). 2.3. In 70% or more cases, usually it is still acceptable to have a water feature at the frontage ( irregardless of the STARs - Flying Stars). 2.3.1 Thus even if the stars are "bad" or inauspicious for a water position, even if we place a water feature, often the Shapes and Forms would supersede this.) 2.3.2 As often when we do have a water feature, nothing can be "built" above this creating a BRIGHT HALL = clear space effect. 3. Thus, as you had mentioned, in an OPEN area; Flying Stars is less effective. 4. And given what I had wrote under Para 1: "the stars determine the fate of people living in a home" It isGOOD/BETTER/BEST to apply Flying Stars WITHIN A HOME. 5. Therefore, don't try to apply Flying Stars when it is the least effective (outside) of a home. One can still apply but Para 2 supersedes it tremendously.

These are several considerations: 1. Compass versus Flying Stars 1.1. It should actually be stated as: Compass School of Feng Shui: Eight House (4 Good/Bad) plus Flying Stars. 1.2. The Three-Step Approach You mentioned: My situation involves my bathroom and toilet being located in the North-West, which corresponds to the Health location according to your reports (8 House Chart). However, my son is associated with Death from this location. 1.2.1. One must possess a proper understanding of the 8 House concept. 1.2.2. Here, I regret to say, you are overlooking the main point. 1.2.3. The essence of the matter is that if an individual does not spend time in that sector, how will it affect them? 1.2.4. Therefore, if your son is not sleeping in the bathroom, which is designated as his "DEATH" sector, how will it impact him? 2. You also stated: To my knowledge, if the toilet or bathroom is situated in the NW, it is inauspicious to increase the metal. However, your report on flying stars requests the enhancement of metal due to stars 5 and 2 for a duration of 20 years. 2.1. Once again, Flying Stars is distinct from Flying Stars. The general concept that NW equals metal or North equals water or South equals Fire represents two separate ideas. 2.2. If one is studying basic Feng Shui, then perhaps the instructor would generalize that North equals Water, South equals Fire, etc. 2.3. However, at advanced levels, such as Diploma or University level, the instructor would teach "Higher" Feng Shui, specifically Flying Star Feng Shui in this context. 3. It is essential to ensure your facts are accurate. You are comparing basic studies where N equals water and S equals fire, and then attempting to align this with the study and application of Flying Star Feng Shui. 4. Furthermore, in a DIY context: The Three-Step Approach, if not properly comprehended, proves to be ineffective.

Frankly, all these have to do with personal believes than Feng Shui. In my opinion, it is best not to be too concerned with "other people's logo" especially since one does not have full control over it. If one really fancies a car, then based on ba zi; could go for one's favourable colour(s) for the car. For example in a conscripted army like Singapore uniforms: green = army white = navy blue = air force If a person is a strong wood person. Can this person requests to go into the navy (white) instead as green is considered inauspicious? What you mentioned, therefore is utopian way of thinking. Then there will be others who will say: THREE pointed stars (Mercedes) logo is inauspicious or BMW's logo shaped like a propeller is also inauspicious. All these can be classified as "peanuts". As there are even more important considerations.
