Dear Tomas, In general, when we first open door; symbolically we want to "deposit" wealth into the new home or apartment. Start of renovations is often done. Here, the most simple procedure is to bring a hammer or a screw driver if we do not have the hammer and before starting renovations, usually say in mandarin " To all the gods, apologies, as I or we are starting renovations on ..... such a such a date." Afterwards, just knock three times on the floor or some on the wall. Usually Hokkiens practice more "simple procedures". Many Cantonese on the other hand, have the concept of 5-ghosts or spirits i.e. spirit or god of North, South, East, West and Central =5 ghosts (not bad ones but they are"ghosts" = gods). Thus, someCantonese may wantto knock all4 corners: North, South , East and West and on thecentrepointpoint floor = centre and place 5 types of fruits (or pray with them). As there is the Hokkiens, there are the Cantonese, there are the Teochews, Hakka etc.. That is why there are somany differingprocedures. For example, for the 1st time open door, throwing in pineapple usually by the Hokkiens/ Teochews aspineapple sound like "ONG LYE" or prosperity come... Therefore, frankly there is no right or wrong procedures! If we analyse carefully, as mentioned earlier.. open door = usually try to deposit some wealth be it throw a pineapple etc... In this modern day, many couples new purchased their home and really have no time to do all the procedures! The best that they may do most of thetime are:- 1. Open door procedure 2. Start of renovations (sometimes, delegated to contractors) 3. End of renovations(nowadays.. in modern times.. for a tinyapartment.. usually not done - Many couples find it "time wasted" just to take leave to perform this.) 4. move-in. Frankly, if we don't do para 3, still won't "die" or have dire repercussions. In fact, for every 1 person who does para 1 to 4, there are at least 5 more who don't even do the above procedure. Thus, if one is so particular about wanting to do the above procedure, best is to look for your immediate family members : elders be it parents, grand parents or uncles or aunties to check what procedure could be done based on often one's dialect group. I would normally recommend para 1, 2 (skip 3) and go for 4. 1 and 4 can be found in this forum. As for para 2, I have elaborated a simple procedure, above. Some even go as far as burning joss papers, light up joss sticks / candles.. No right or wrong answer... Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Tomas Ka wrote: I just got a resale flat. Also I have to carry out some rituals For the Open door and Lu zai i found it in the forum But for dong tu and xie tu and an sheng I didnt see any. I read differing views on these 3 rituals. Dear Anon, Frankly, the hardest room to move-if any is a bathroom because of it's fixtures/sewerage piping etc... Thus, many of us have to "live" with it. In general, there are two "COMMONSENSE" approach in the name of Feng Shui: 1. If our bathroom door is fronting the stairs.. the best alternative of not seeing the toilet while moving up and down is simply to close the door. 2. Whenever we flush to toilet, especially the toilet bowl, the water coming from the toilet bowl area usually "flys" out. This is why we often here that toilet is not clean or dirty. Ordinarily, many of us are healthy individuals and a bit "dirt" does not kill us! For example, in a toilet, anywhere, we place our toothbrush, and when we flush out toilet bowl, some germs would be deposited on it. Again, many of us are healthy human beings and thus a litte germ is acceptable! The "scary" thing was one day.. while driving this "joker" advertise to buy his "disinfection" tablet to disinfect our toothbrush! Here, next time for Singaporean say going to places like Thailand or Malaysia and patronise road side vendors may not be say tolerant to unclean food etc... no immunity... Warmest Regards, Cecil Anonymous wrote: my bathroom door is fronting the stairs, what does this imply?what can i do with this?thanks.

Dear Anon, The common "cure" is to place a red circular "dot" (e.g. using a permanent marker, or a circular red sticker the size of a hole-pucher hole or the use ofa "girls" reddish nail varnish. Just simply place the "dot" on the key hole area or just above the keyhole of the doorknob. Place the same "dot" exactly on the same area of the other door. Here, symbolically, the RED dot is like an "eye". And it goes " we look eye to eye with each other Anonymous wrote: the 2 bedroom doors of my apartment are facing each other what can i do with this?

Dear Anon, 1. Firstly, is there any other better alternatives then to place bamboo strips? For example, if it is a window, so long as you have closed the window or it is part of the balcony the balcony glass is on the side facing the main door such that qi cannot flow out directly. 2. If the above alternative is used, then no need to consider bamboo strips. 3. If you still have to use bamboo strips, then the "test" is so long as we humans can "see thru" the bamboo strips to our main door; then equally, it is fine to place it at the location mentioned. 4. As for the frosted glass so long as it is not reflective (like a mirror) it would be acceptable especially if it is sandblasted or "matt finish". However, if it is shiny then best not to have it if you can. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Fundamentally, what is Qi? Qi is invisible and cannot be ordinarily detected by any instrutment (although in Hong Kong, they do sell some of these products purporting to be qi detectors) Anonymous wrote: In my neighbourhood, the Govt has started roof repairs to HDB flats and soon an entire block's external facade will be repainted. Walls of common areas eg corridors, stairwells, lobby, etc will also be given a fresh coat of paint. Will these measures be sufficientto changemy flat from Period 7 to Period 8 especially if I do not renovate my unitor repaint myunit's ceiling in one session? However, many of us have learned or read that we can beneifit by activating or neutralising bad qi. Thus, Flying Star Feng Shui is thus widely used as one of the means of working out the qi flow. In my opinion, many FS practitioner still feel that although a fresh coat of paint of the block's external facade has been repainted, but to many practitioners, the building does not automatically fly to Period 8 on this basis particularly unit or cells or apartments in such a block. Take for example, true change of qi occurs (predictably) for say Funan Centre and even now going to reopen later Gina Plaza. Here, several years back, Funan Centre went for a major face lift and internal change and update. Same goes for Marina Square. Thus, for commercial building; most of the time, it is: 1. All tenants vacate the premises (TOTALLY). 2. Major renovation works: floor tiles, partitions ceiling , even many rooms or offices have been re-organised. However, looking back at your HDB BLOCK, did such a thing happen? If so, it may only occur individually. For example, in your block there may be say 100 units/apartment. And not possible for ALL units to undergo Major renovations. Thus, there is hope for change of Qi is when you (if u do not hack the floor tiles) try to have a fresh coat of paint , plus repaint the ceiling etc.. Thus, your home would not automatically change to P8 just by having what you had mentioned. Anonymous wrote: What is chi of Period 8?Some website advised if you cannot change the period of your flat you can welcome the chi of period 8 by opening a window in NW. Can the chi of period 8 alter the natal chart's flying stars? Anonymous wrote: From 4 Feb 2008, I will have all the earth flying stars in my South corner ie #2, #5 and #8 (WS).Will #8 overrule #2 and #5 so that no cures are necessary? Should I put water to weaken Fire of South so there is less earth produced? If I put metal, will Fire melt the metal rendering it useless for curing earth? Is there a way to cure #2 and #5 without hurting #8? Say, by trying to welcome P8 qi, it does not necessarily mean that the natal charts will change. You should still use P7 chart but "to welcome" P8 qi, you should try to active Flying star numbers #8 = current prosperity : which is usually 0 to 2 years luck #9 = future prosperity : which is usually 2 to 5 years luck #1 = future, future prosperity : which is usually 5 to 10 years luck (But currently #9 = fire and many sectors have both #5 misfortune / sickness and/or #2 sickness combined or fuelled by #9 making the sector worse off) With #2 #5 and base #8; unfortunately all are earth elements. For such a sector; especially with the bad #5, here; safer (not to be greedy to try to activate #8 ) in the expense of inflamming or enlarging #5. Thus, instead try more to see if u can activate: another sector that has mountain star #8 and or water star #8, instead. And in addition, under P8, if SW is in the balcony or living room, we should try to activate water here (as SW = indirect wealth spirit location) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Chris, You should use the Personal Ba Zi for the design of your husband's logo. As the name "Personal" suggests that it is specific unlike the general Chinese horoscope. Therefore, since your husband is considered a weak metal person, in logo design, best for him to use:- 1. water = blue, black or grey and/or wavy shapes or designs 2. metal = white, silver or gold and/or circle Any of the above two combinations are good for his company logo. Furthermore, if the industry is music; then para 1 would be good since music comes under the water element i.e. blue, black, grey and waves...(wavy) logo Good Luck! Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. I am unable to advise you based on " sector " unconventional non-traditional Feng Shui. 2. This type of unconventional " FS " is a modern invention. 3. It has no merits in Traditional FS and is only popular in US. Perhaps, at best it provides `false' hope. 4. This type of " sector " thing; can be highly commercialised and one may end up spending money lining the pocket of the unsuspecting " FS practitioner " and shops that benefit by selling a person items. 5. There are a few more of such recent messages and if you do not see a reply, then one should understand that it is not worth the while pursuing these concepts. 6. These concepts are in my opinion worse off than even " Kindergarten Feng Shui " and if one examines carefully, it is quite `silly' paying homage to a corner or corner. Furthermore, these "sector" ideas, imply that it can be applied universally to everyone - too simplistic... a model. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Yes, some Feng Shui books often indicate that when we cook, we should be able to see who is coming into the kitchen. This is a commonsense approach: 1. Not often, we will leave the entrance door open. But, sometimes, when we cook, the noise may drown e.g. a bell or someone calling us at the main entrance. Especially so if it is any of our loved ones ... especially the very young children who may have just came back from school. 2. Should someone have left the entrance door open, we may see "an intruder" come in ..eg towards us.. (Most unlikely.. but this is what some of the book(s) say... Frankly, most of the time Para 1 and 2 does not happen. As often, we roughly know when our child is coming back; and we may infact.. be waiting, instead at the front door. Ideally, when we stand at the main entrance door, we should try to avoid seeing the stove directly. As it is akin to symbollically "getting"burned when we,just stepped into the home. Therefore, it is better not to hang a mirror; if we can. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Fenny, Traditionally, you can try purchasing a small foldable pen-knife. Wrap it in a cloth material and it is sewn into the pillow casing. Warning: Make sure that the pen-knife is closed shut and the casing is padded with cloth. It is suppose to curb dreams. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Connie, Thanks for the sketch. As there are two sets of windows and the bedroom door is close to the toilet area etc... the best position for the bedhead is perhaps shown in the attachment. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. Usually the air-conditioner rotary unit should be placed at a "sensible" location even if it is one's excellent sector etc... 2. Under Eight House theory, one should not be too worried about such issues. If the back area is the best location for air-con then just do it. 3. More importantly, the Eight House theory is more about which direction is more suitable etc.. Rather than if we place such a such an item at our Excellent or Prosperity sector... 4. For a fish tank either go by personal feel or if you do know how to draw a flying star chart then; for example; one can benefit from water feature in a Water Star #8 (current prosperity - Overall career luck area) or Water Star #1 (coming prosperity) sector. Alternatively, one can benefit with a water feature at a location that has nasty #5 misfortune or #2 sickness location i.e. the "water" can help drown these bad stars. However, it would not be favourable to have a water feature placed at the Mountain Star #8 (current prosperity - networking, relationship luck). Try to imagine... this location is suppose to be a "mountain" and imagine you did a lake (fish tank) and the mountain fell into the lake.. Alternatively, this 20 year, #9 is a fire element and is also known as coming prosperity. A water feature particuarly at the Mountain Star #9 is also not very favourable as water drowns fire! Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Quote: Anonymous wrote: Good morning Master Lee, We put a central air conditioner unit in the back outside the house the South West, according to the 8-house direction this is our "Excellent direction" is this mean we block our good fengshui if so what is the cure for it? Dear Anon, 1. "The spice of life is - variety". 2. Thus an object usually may not necessarily fall into just one category of the Five-Elements. Thus since this is a green garnet, more likely as what you have mentioned; the primary element of this stone is the Wood element. However, since it is physically made of stone /gem, it can equally be considered as classified asan earth element. However, as often the colour previals, we can generally say that it is green = wood element. Again, there is no right or wrong answers. Just make sure that each of your answer(s) seems reasonable. Warmest Regards, Cecil. Quote: Anonymous wrote: What element does the green garnet gemstone belong to? Is it wood since it is green colour?

Dear Anon, For the Chinese, in particular, when one is pregnant, one should not move one's bed. This is a taboo. More importantly, don't move your current bed especially before giving birth. Therefore, if possible, try to avoid moving any furniture (if any) inside your bedroom (master bedroom). As for other rooms or hallway furniture, for practical aspects, you should not participate in moving the furnitures. If possible, should there be a need for furniture to be moved at all, for yourself, try not to be around when they (it) the furniture are moved. We live in a practical world, and as mentioned earlier, don't touch your bedroom furniture... is good enough. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Anonymous wrote: My sister who is staying in my house now will be shifting outthis Dec. Dear Anon, For the ground floor, since there is a garage, best to close the garage door when not in use. Once this is done the middle door can still be left open without further issue. Thus if this is done, no longer compulsory to place the plants. For upper floors, try to close any one of the middleroom doors will do. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Andy, An event's manager may be considered as a wood element. While a nutritionist especially if you do provide frequent advise to people can also be considered directly as belonging to the wood element. As wood element is about "growth/ nurturing", teaching, training andin thecase of an event's manager co-ordination. If so, if we strictly based on the FiveElements concept, metal destroys wood to create wealth. Thus without considering your personal traits or preferences, both are suppose to acceptable to you. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Sophia, I hope that your sister is OK. Yes, the roof tiles has to be replaced immediately even if she is not around. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Usually, the most obvious concern of this home is the 'T'junction that you had mentioned. In particular, the most vuneral part of the home is to check whether the main entrance or windows are "exposed" to this 'T'junction. If the main enrnace door or windows are exposed towards the 'T'junction, a cluster of bushes may not be as effective. Usually, the most effective is a "solid" wall or fencing would be better or safer. So long as one does not as yet stay in the new home, anytime of the year is OK to start renovations. However, if one has already moved-in; best for this year to avoid renovations especially at the NW (Grand Duke location which is the main door) and West (5 yellows) location. Usually, for the Chinese, we perform an "initial opening ritual". Please see attachment, below. As for the creek, usually, best to apply Flying Star Feng Shui to check how suitable is this "water position" in relation to the home. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Hoa, In my opinion, what you had described; on it's own may not be considered as a change of the house period. Imagine this: it is akin to a person, changing his/her skin and yet the mouth e.g. (main entrance doors) remains untouched. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Hoa Luong wrote: Not just the glass, but all the frames were replaced also. Basically, I got all new windows including frames and glass (all 14 of them). Does this change the house period?

Dear Charlane, Traditionally, Chinese find it "offensive" for others to send a clock as a gift to them. Thus, based on this tradition, often we may see a school with a clock tower. And if the clock on such a tower faces our home, this is also considered as "sending" a clock to our home. An inauspicious connotation. Thus, the point in mind is that for those living in apartments, avoid placing a wall clock immediately facing our main entrance. Here, when we first enter our home, we should not be "greeted" by a wall clock. In addition, it is quite common for high rise apartments where the living rooms of two units face each other. We should also have the courtesy of not placing a clock in our living room such that it faces our neighbour's home. "Unless of course - one is so hateful of the neighbour" that one purposely place such a clock!" *JOKE*. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Johanna, In fact, many people would fall into your category of having chosen "wrong homes". What is more important is a "holistic approach" to Feng Shui. What you had mentioned is like the "tip-of-the-ice-berg". Generally, what you had described has to do with the eight house theory. It is only one of the sub-divisions of the Compass School Feng Shui. As mentioned above, a holistic approach is if one really applies Feng Shui to review or access a situation or home / office is to apply:- a. Shapes and Forms Feng Shui b. Compass School: Eight House with Flying Star Thus, what you had described is just one sub-division of the Compass School Feng Shui. A full Feng Shui audit usually begins with Shapes and Forms and coupled by Compass School Feng Shui. You could look into this rather than just superficially looking at the "tip-of-the-ice-berg". Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear William, The cure for star #5 with #2 (and hopefully not combined with #9) would be any of the following:- 1. Moving metal In the past, one can purchase those made in China mechanical alarm clocks that "tick-tock; tick-tock". It can be placed at a side table - one may have to get used to this sound - after-a-while. 2. Hang a 6 hollow rod wind chime (use the heavier clinger / weight) so that it does not make to much sound. Wind chime is preferred in a location - not the bedroom as too much of it's noise may affect some person's sleep. 3. Glass jar, filled with salt and 6 copper coins place e.g. at the corner of the window area. 4. Traditional Feng Shui masters ask their clients to place a "bottle-gourd" or known as "hu-lu" i.e. hung at the window or placed next to the bed (bedside table). 5. If moving metal cannot be placed then a set of six coins tied with red string is hung at the window area.
