Dear Alice, 1. Since, I envisage that there will be more questions on this issue: Is it better to remain a Period 7 or to change to a Period 8 home. 2. The D.I.Y. "Expert" The steps below are based on the belief that: the user wants to do-it-on-their own (D.I.Y.). If so, make sure that one has a good grounding in Flying Star Feng Shui. 3. If one is a novice in Flying Star Feng Shui If the person is only a novice, than, it is best to seek advise from a FS practitioner - requesting the steps (below) to be incorporated in your home audit - if it has not been done already. 4. Here are some of the considerations which applies not only to the "West" but rather all other directions:- 4.1 Step 1: Draw Flying Star Charts ==================================== 4.2 For example if your home is a "West" Home. The least one can do is to draw at least TWO CHARTS. 4.3 And if your home is a WEST 1 home, than, try to draw and later analyse your home based on Period 7's West 1 or Period 8's West 1. 4.4 If one's home was/is a Period 6's WEST 1, than, no point drawing a Period 7's chart since it has past it's shelf-date. Draw a Period 8 WEST 1 chart. 4.5 Step 2: Analyse which chart is better? ========================================== 4.6 Check the Flying star numbers of a facing direction. 4.7 Usually, if the frontage is afflicted by or has some of these numbers: #5 , #2 , #7 or #3 (usually in a combination be it MS, WS or Base) - then this home is a candidate for a change in period - especially if all other sectors are equally not as favourable. 4.8 Equally important is the centrepoint of the home. For the West 1 home the centrepoint is plagued by an inauspicious 5MS 9WS with Base7 combination. Given that this year, the 5 yellow is at the centerpoint or the flux of the home, it is not so favourable. 4.9 If Period 8's chart has double #8's at the frontage, chances are, it is better to fly to Period 8, since this house should have overall better Flying Star Feng Shui. 4.10 In addition to comparing the "mouth" or frontage of the home, the centrepoint, it is also equally important to compare the flying star for each bedroom(s) and even the sitting position or back of the home. 4.11 Like exams, we want to score as much marks as possible. And if the new Period 8 chart is much better in all compartments, why not. 5. Step 3: Cannot "catch" (comprehen) what I say ================================================ 5.1 For those who cannot "catch" (comprehen) what I say, should again, see whether it is better to get a competent FS practitioner to an extensive assessment. Else, read on.... 5.2 Step 4: Check if it is possible to activate the MS#8 and especially the water star WS#8 ================================== 5.3 No matter under which Period, since we are under Period 8, check to see where is the water star #8 position. 5.4 If your home is a Period 7 home and if the water star is located at the frontage, then, it may be justifiable to consider maintaining it a Period 7 home (after considering also Step 2 and other relevant information above. 5.5 This is because, sometimes, under Period 8, even if we have a double #8's it may fly into the wrong place. For example, under Period 8 West 1, there is a double #8's but it flew to the sitting position. 5.6 In many homes, the sitting position is the back of the home and unless, one has a living room, here, one cannot take proper advantage of the double #8's. 5.7 Step 5: Can the door be tilted to another direction ======================================================= 5.8 This involves, more expert analysis. So, one should seriously consider getting proper FS advise. 5.9 For example, a North 2 Period 7 home is not advantages to move into Period 8 North 2. Since North 2, Period 7 has double 7's but is not favourable under Period 8, because of the inaspicious double 7's. Water can be used to drown it. 5.10 But is there a better choice? 5.11 Yes, if it is feasible to tilt the main door to North 1, Period 8, this is excellent because, the house would enjoy double 8's at the frontage. 5.12 Step 6: Go ahead to check out your home based on the above advise 5.13 Unfortunately for those who are groggy by now, and trying to find your asprin (panadol) then, better not look at all these information. 6. In conclusion ================ For "copycat" questions, like this: "Would appreciate if you could advise how Period 8 will affect a house facing XXXX?" ( SEX ) I would have to get the person to do a SEARCH for the keyword " SEX " in this forum. And since it has appeared, here, one can most certainly find this page. Since, what has SEX got to do with a Feng Shui forum. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Mei Lee, Generally, it has more to do with "commonsense approach" to Feng Shui. This is because, if the site / slope is "well maintained" it is fine. But in some cases, such as poor piling done and due to heavy (or very heavy rainfall), and if the slope is not protected, we often see pictures on houses on the "hill" breaking up or the slope causing a landslide - coming down to the lower home. Frankly, this is quite rare. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Regina, To side-track a little:- 1. The annual Five The annual #5 falls at the centrepoint of a home. If so, often, leaving it as a "clear space" or walkway is good enough. For those who are duly concerned with it. The rationale is that it would be quite silly to place e.g. a wind chime at this centrepoint. Since, either, most of the time - a regular wind chime, would not chime as much. Even if it does chime, in a home environment, it can get pretty uncomfortable - since - it can affect the welfare of family members e.g. those who need to study or pay attention to work or for sleep. 2. These three variable numbers are not favourable: since #3 affects work or work issues and #2 with #5 often reflect sickness. 3. However, before you start to "panic" or do anything, do check the annual number at this sector. Hopefully, if it is #6, this would be good as #6 being strong metal can help to keep in check this numbers. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Alice, If you can fax a copy of your layout plan to my fax: 64820570 and provide me an e-mail account, I can indicate it on the layout plan for you. Do let me have a short description of each side of your home or what you see from inside of each side looking outwards. Please also let me know the unit level. The e-mail account or a HP so that once I viewed it, I can either e-mail my comments. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Nhan, 1. In my opinion, no. One should not only consider specifically the base #8 as an active star. 2. This is because, some FS schools have even "sidelined" the base number. And some of the FS schools placed emphasis on the MS # and WS #. 3. I feel that all three variables: Base, MS and WS are equally important. And also because under Period 7, #4 is bad number. 4. But, under Period 8, it is felt that it is a "mixed-blessing" star. Some FS practitioners feel that #4 is a good star. While others like me, would say that it is a "mixed blessing". 5. This is because, central to Flying Star Feng Shui is what is known as the 81 interpretations. This is the permutation of 1 with 1, 1 with 2..... 2 with 1 up to 9 with 1... 9 with 9. A total of 81 different combinations. 6. In addition, often many FS practitioners understand relations like MS#1 with WS#4 etc... 7. In history, we understand that even so called "dead" volcanoes may erupt at anytime. 8. And using the term "dead" is similar to a one-dimension look at the numbers. 9. If we understand the Flying Star numerology, correctly, some people may view it from a two-dimension view. But, the highest state of understanding is that is actually a three-dimensional model encomphasing: Five Elements concept, 81 combinations, Flying star rulesets e.g. Pearl String, Sum-of-ten, Up mountain, down water etc.... 10. Therefore, in a 20-Year Flying Star analysis, even if a number or number(s) are dead, they are still combined in a Base / Mountain / water star group to derive the influence of a sector. 11. And it is said still "posess" energy. As this engergy is based on it's element and strength. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Mabel, Often, it is best to just close the toilet door. Under symbolism in Feng Shui, there is no harm in placing a hulu or bottle gourd object next to the toilet bowl. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, It depends: 1. Where possible, there should be ONLY 1 water position. And this water position (real water) should only be activated according to the Flying Star Feng Shui. For example, a period 7 house has a double #7. And water is used here to activate it for `wealth' under Period 7 etc... 2. Often if there are more than 2 water positions e.g. fish tank measuring 4 ft by 2 ft, is pretty significant and thus not ideal to have more of it.... 3. For a Strong water person, in some instances, it is preferred if the water position is at the balcony area (outside the living area of the home). 4. It also depends on the decor of the home. For example, for a strong water person:- 4.1 His good individual colours are: 1. wood element 2. fire element and earth element. (Fire element is his wealth element). 4.2 If his home has much of colours associated with Wealth = fire and or wood element, then, this is better, since it would help to neutralise further imbalances. 5. For the water position, e.g. a water feature, try to activate it with all five elements. Please check my previous message or SEARCH for arowana on how to activate a five element water feature. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Carlos, Wow! Double #5's are bad enough (Misfortune/sickness x 2). But with the addition of #9 (strong fire), this is a "potent" inauspicious combination. Since strong fire further fuels strong earth #5 x2. If you can, usually, a set of wind chime could be used outside the bedroom e.g. window area to dissipate this three combined inauspicious combination. In addition, it is best to use metal cure inside this room to further negate the bad sector. Try to avoid: Check the room for presence of Earth element i.e. earth tones e.g. cream, beige or yellow. And further avoid any Fire (red, pink or purple) colour in the room. The most common is to check that the walls are not this colour, curtains and bedsheet. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Cecil, After browsing many many feng shui sites, I came to one conclusion: your site is the most sensible, reasonable and helpful one of all. I've been to sites where they want to sell you just about anything and everything. The information they are willing to give is so trivial and one senses that the only thing they are interested in is to make money and sell you products that might and might not fit in with your decor or your culture, and of course doesn't serve the purpose of curing and or enhancing. Sorry for the long message, but I have a friend who spent a fortune buying all types of figurines to cure then to enhance and then eventually all she got was more figures on her credit card and no luck! I believe that what one should do is get your advise first because it makes so much sense and it is always sincere. I also believe that people should buy things that pleases their eye and provide a sense of beauty and balance. Again sorry for the long message and thank you for a wonderful site. Luna Ghobar, 10 March 2003 Students new to Feng Shui can learn more on their own, with the help of a few good books and this website, than many "practitioners" can teach them. Dear Regina, With the star numbers mentioned, it is OK to place a plant to mask the poison arrow. Honestly, from your picture, and given that your sofa is a distance away, I personally think that there is no threat from the fire-place. It is not like one is sitting next to it. From the picture, the distance is somewhat like 1 metre away (the sofa). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Vincent, Please see below:- Yes, use the balcony. Since your home is rectangular in shape, and for a novice, you can divide it into 9 equal grids. For the pie chart, you can check this old resource: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm If you are applying Flying Star Feng Shui, then, it is best to check the 20 Year Flying Star chart for that sector, plus the annual star at the sector. For example, if the annual star has #2 or #5 or the 20 Year star chart has any of these, it may not be a good idea to add red to this sector. Since fire may further fuel bad earth #2 or #5. Equally, if there is a #9 (strong fire) at that sector, it may also not be a good idea to add red. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Rosni, 1. In my opinion, more accurately, if we look at the word Feng Shui carefully, it belongs to a wider term known as Geomancy. 2. For example, in Singapore and Malaysia, many business related to Feng Shui do not call their business: ABC Feng Shui etc... 3. But rather, at this moment, nearly every "Feng Shui" business has a "GEOMANCY" added somewhere in their name. 4. This is because, the whole business of Geomancy is to support a demand from what is known as "cradle to the grave". For example, for the Chinese; YANG FENG SHUI:- =============== 1. once a new child is born, many parents or grand parents go to a geomancer to select a favourable name for the child. 2. services like: auspicious dates for marriage etc.. face reading, hand reading, Chinese astrology 3. Home feng shui comes in when one starts a family or simply owns a home. YIN FENG SHUI:- ============== 4. Because of scarcity of land, nowadays, loved ones are cremated. In the past, Geomancers are also involved in selection of burial sites etc.... Look at it as "job satisfaction" but more importantly, unlike the multi-million Feng Shui business of today, in the past, a Geomancer has to live off every type of job to suppliment his / her income. 5. In general, I would say that Geomancers should be classified as under the "wood" element. As wood element suggests: growth, discovery. And like plants, are like catalyst for growth. Geomancers who provide training or courses are also closely resembling wood element. (Since training belows to this category.) 6. As mentioned above, Feng Shui can be considered as one of the elements of Geomancy. Since Feng Shui is associated with the earth element i.e. Feng Shui is about Earth luck, then, broadly, we can consider it as closer to the Earth element. 7. However, as mentioned above, a Feng Shui practitioner who spends more time e.g. during research and training, should be considered as a wood element i.e. catalyst of growth. 8. For example, replying messages on anything under the sky in relation to Chinese divinity methods and constant research - Geomancy.net can thus be seen as a Wood element. 9. Geomancy.net does not sell or want to sell any products. 10. But if one often go to a Feng Shui website that sells products e.g. Feng Shui emporiums or some FS practitioners who "moonlight" selling FS productions could be considered more inclined towards the "Earth element". Since they may sell anything under the sun - in the name of "Feng Shui. And many of these products are from the earth. 11. Overall, frankly, there is never a right or wrong answer. Since, nowadays, we are in the "multi-tasking" age. 12. In the past, the butcher is strictly a butcher. A merchant is strictly a merchant. But nowadays, a butcher could also be using a computer etc.. So does a Geomancer. So long as one put forth a reasonable - justification to substantiate one's view points, this implies maturity of thought. Again, the answer cannot be YES or NO. But rather YES / NO / IT DEPENDS! Warmest Regards, Cecil

Further to what I had mentioned, attached is a simple illustration of the impact of a corner (sha qi/poison arrow) aimed at a certain direction.... Note: this is only available for web-login and not to those participating thru e-mail.

Dear Anooja, Please see below:- Apologies, don't really quite understand your question. The two "secrets" of Flying Star Feng Shui are: 1. Activating the water position or water star for the period. Under period 6, the water star is #6. Under period 7, the water star is #7. Under period 8, the water star is #8. Here, it is said that activating water star under Flying Star is equvalent of what is called the "wealth position". As it says, it helps to improve on wealth $$$$. 2. Activating the mountain star(s). On the same note, Under Period 8, activating the mountain star with a solid object at a location that can support a mountain star i.e. Under period 8, activating #8 mountain star or base star #8 would help to activate relationship and health luck. Here, as mentioned above, the sector to activate a mountain star should be e.g. the back of the home or a room etc... It is silly to activate a mountain star at the main entrance. Who would want to e.g. place a rock above the main door? Under shapes and forms feng shui, it is like putting a mountain at the front of the house. (Pretty silly idea). On a commonsense approach, placing on the main door may not be good. Because of gravity, one day, it may just fall down and hit family member's head. For those who are in no good terms with their mother-in-law, could pray hard that it falls on her:( The morale of the story is that even if a water star or mountain star is found in a home, it may not necessarily be applicable. For example, if a water star #8 is found in one's bedroom. It would be silly to place a fountain in one's bedroom. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Regina, Thanks for taking the effort to post a picture:) I just have to open the picture file and do a quick scan of your message. This has a higher chance of getting a reply! Often, such a corner has a small "poison arrow" foot print. Looks like, this is a minor issue IF: 1. Your sofa or sitting position is not directly at this "point" (currenly masked by the plant). 2. Even if so, such a corner does not have the type of sha qi force of a corner home aimed at e.g. one's home. 3. For such a corner, in my opinion, the sha qi is minor: if the corner is entirely made of concrete, the impact zone is approximately 1 metre or less. If the corner is made of wood, I would place the sha qi as 2 feet or less. 4. So, it seems that your sofa or someone sitting close to it has already past this safety zone. I believe, the impact is up to the brick raised platform. 5. To determine whether a plant can be at this location or not, often, from a Shapes and Forms perspective, it is OK. (No harm to place one there). If the consideration is under Flying Star Feng Shui, then if the sector has one or more #3 or #4, then, it may not be necessarily good to place a plant there. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Lee Seng, Frankly, it is better if you have simple sketch rather than all descriptive words to eliminate mis-interpretation and the need to aborb too many lines. Futhermore, a picture, tells a thousand words. Generally, for a kitchen located at the South compass direction of a home, here, the stove can face the fridge. Since south has the element of fire. But if the kitchen is at the North compass direction, or NE direction, than preferably, the stove should not "see" the fridge. Please see below:- This is OK. For family's health, it is often arranged to suit the ba zi of the wife. This two can share the same wall but avoid having the fridge right in the middle of the toilet sink and the stove. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Robert, Having done tens and thousands of International Ba zi, I strongly recommend, keeping your date of birth as it is i.e. your own country. Do a SEARCH if you want to find out past postings by us on this subject i.e on the issues of "GMT" conversions etc.... Warmest Regards, Cecil

In addition to my previous remarks, this message should be easily comprehensible to most Singaporean Chinese, with Hokkien being the predominant Chinese community. Teochews are also likely to grasp this message without difficulty. If you were to send it to a Taiwanese friend, it is generally acceptable, as most Taiwanese are either Hokkiens or have been raised with this language. However, if you send it to a friend from Hong Kong, it may not be as easily understood, since the majority of the Chinese dialect group there is Cantonese. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear All, With the widespread popularity of SMS messages; This year, many of us I believe have sent SMS Greetings more so than other years! Besides receiving picture greetings and standard SMS Gong Xi Fa Cai greetings, I was really, really impressed with this Hokkien greetings:- So, if you like to impress your Hokkien friends (erh... make sure that you know your friends are Hokkien or at least Teochews or at least knows or understand Hokkien); why not keep in mind this lovely SMS... for next year? This message has a splatter of Hokkien and Mandarin. Here goes: START OF SMS:- "Dear Thee Kong, Pls poh bi all my friends pinpin angang, soonsoon lili duing this coming 2004. Kam Xia. Best wishes from (your name)" --------- END OF SMS ----------- Rough translation of above message: Dear (Thee Kong) Heaven, Please pray for a good year all my friends: (pinpin angang) safe and (soonsoon lili) smooth year ahead for 2004. Dear Anon, Note: this domain or message, is not Feng Shui but rather Chinese Horoscope based on the Year of birth:- 1. Based on Chinese astrology, the worst "hit" Tiger is the Water-Tiger born under 5 Feb 1962 to 24 Jan 1963 2. While the worst two Monkeys are those born in the year of the Metal-Monkey: 2.1 Metal-Monkey born between 20 Feb 1920 to 7 Feb 1921 2.2 Metal-Monkey born between 16 Feb 1980 to 4 Feb 1981 3. Where possible, these three groups should avoid attending a funeral or if (as a last resort) should not be there to view the closing of the coffin. 4. For buddhists or toaists, under Chinese beliefs, it is good to make an offering at a temple - to receive blessings. 5. For those who are none-of-the above under Para 4, should offer a simple prayer at home. Generally, if one can gather clues from the above, it has to do with the Five Elements concept. Thus, in general, one can say that those born under the Water element is not favourable, this year:- Water-Snake 14 Feb 1953 to 2 Feb 1954 Metal-Pig 27 Jan 1971 to 14 Feb 1972 Thus in general, Metal-something and/or Water-something persons, under the Chinese horoscope may not seem to have a good deal - for the year. If possible, for those born in the Year of Tiger or Monkey, to (differ) major renovations in the home. In particular, location of Tai Sui. That's it folks! Chinese Horoscope, is based generally on YEAR of birth vs YEAR assessment. Do take note that although some of this info may sound bad but, there are also 12 mths and in each 12 months, there are 30 days. Thus, not everything automatically translates to a 365 days of doom or gloom. Life is what we make of it! Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Nana, Please refer to my most recent reply to a similar question on Apartment no. Looks to me like your home is a landed property. Do take note that the House Number Flying Star Feng Shui is meant for Apartments or High rise apartments. If your home is close to the ground - landed property, please do not use this report. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Simon, Further to what I had mentioned, in-fact everyday while reading new messages posted to this forum is indeed a new learning experience. Given that no two situation are often alike, it is always foolhardy to use only YES or NO? (Is it true? type of question). In fact, there are many well documented cases of great lawyers who, can argue or fight cases, some of them, which may seem hopeless (to defend). Yet, these people can turn around "the jury". Thus, I can only say "It depends". Often, there is no right or wrong answers. It depends on how, one puts up his or her argument or logic to support their case. In Singapore, not all buildings have equal heights. Thus, can one quantify what one means by 9 storeys high. Some condos, with units at 6 or 7 storey high is literally as high as the 9th storey apartment. For example, some condos have very high ceiling. And if one studys "The Sterling" condo at Bukit Timah Road, the apex buildings are at the hill. And a 3rd storey apartment at this apex is as high as the 7th storey of a typical HDB apartment. To be frank, 9th storey can be quite subjective. Since, there is often no standard height per storey, given the above example. Again, the issue here is "It depends". Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Kevin, 1. This is based on the "vertical Flying Star" analysis interpretation based on the combination of 81 numbers. 2. The 81 combinations is literally what it means. 3. Likewise, if one looks at the information of a "Horizontal Flying Star" or 20 Year Flying star, each sector also has a significance. (81 combinations of mountain vs water star). 4. A practitioner does not read this interpretation alone. But collectively with other inputs found. 5. Generally, as Robert has often stated, a much more productive use of this House number is where: for those who are not too sure of which unit to purchase in a similar block of flat, could perhaps, look at the significance of the qi flow at different storeys. 6. In my opinion, I will not use the interpretation, soley on just the vertical house no. interpretation alone. 7. A long time ago, my master, did highlight that we can draw a parallel to this phrase "ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME". What this means is that, often, if a home has poor Feng Shui, most of the indications could point to this. In addition, fortune telling is not just about e.g. the Ba Zi alone. But this is why, there are other means of gathering information. For example, a good GEOMANCER, can read-off clues from one's palm (palmistry); face reading etc...Such inputs give a better clues or in the right hands, a 360 overview of say the person. Thus, in a "worst case" senario, if the house no, combination seems not too good, and in addition, if the facing Flying Star numbers of a home does not seem good e.g. #2 #5 at the main door area, then, like a lawyer, the case or facts starts to built up (stack against) the owner. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Simon, Frankly, there is no single right or wrong answer. Again, it depends! For example, a typical HDB 5 room point block has at least two "faces". And, also, some FS practitioners also consider the facing with the most light e.g. balcony even if it is lower than 9th floor. Therefore, to say that your friend is "totally" correct is not exactly - true. Another point is that maybe your friend got pointers from a book and then try to "practice" based on a personal opinion perhaps by some practitioners. Look at it this way, qi is affected by Hi and low pressure points throught the day. At a specific location with hi pressure, air rotates a certain direction. And low pressure causes air to rotate a different direction. Given this understanding, a particular facing direction e.g. a block may not necessary hold true, if one wants to investigate into a sub-section or a unit of an apartment. Again, if one is aware, many of the new apartments such as those winding or many of the new Punggol apartments where, the entire block circulates or surounds an entire rectangle area, then, the question is where is the frontage? Each flat within this "snaking" block has a different facing. And, a more reliable indicator could perhaps, be the balcony area. This in my opinion makes more sense. But again, IT DEPENDS! We should not get "smart alecks" to dictate or provide a god given "fixed" advise. this is rather foolish, it would seem. Warmest Regards, Cecil
